MLS marketing department has been awful since inception. Thy have no clue what they are doing.
Idk about totally awful, but their national message is missing something. They actually do a decent job at attracting regional support, well unless you live in Chicago or Columbus

Well than I guess I just don't know, I gave the MLS a shot for few matches, I don't gave the energy for it

Shrugs
If you watched how Atlanta FC or Sporting KC play, you wouldn’t think the league isn’t as bad as you thought it was.

Of course, it’s still a lower league compared to most of the European leagues and probably only the 4th best league in the Americas? But they are attracting young talent, mostly from Latin countries lol

I’m in marketing and just think they their insights have been late and that national message you bring up has to do with their brand essence aka they have no clue what they are doing. Lol end rant.

With MLS most people who really don't accept it have a snobby view of it. Of course it doesn't compare to the top leagues in the world. You don't watch the Premier League to watch Huddersfield v. Swansea and have high expectations for quality footy either.

Its crazy how people cant support their own local teams and leagues but go mad over a foreign club and league you have no real ties to. Seems like most people here who are Pro MLS are also the Pro USMNT supporters and the ones opposite don't care for the USMNT or MLS either.

I don't find it crazy when people root for a foreign club since soccer is a global sport after all. If it weren't for foreign investors, the EPL wouldn't be as good as if it only had English support.
Now I'm pro USMNT, but I'm kinda not too pro MLS in regards of management of the actual league. I think people do slander the talent of MLS 3.0 way too much for my liking, but I do think there's a right to criticize the structure of the league and how they market themselves domestically and internationally.

I like the MLS and I do support a club, but I think they can do a better job of promoting the sport.

I watch DC United (hometown) and 2 other teams for the most part. When Toronto is good I'll watch them, Atlanta is good, and Timbers always seem to have exciting (relatively speaking) games.

Vela and LAFC have been some pretty good watches this season also.

MLS isn't completely terrible, its just way behind compared to the other leagues. I understand why some don't care to bother with it though, and I don't blame them. But considering I watch Ligue 1... I'm used to some pretty bad games. Granted Ligue 1 teams would still work the MLS..

MLS needs more latin/south american/european managers.

Please someone take Ben Olsen from DC...

No, it has nothing to do with that. Why would I use that reasoning for MLS if I still watch other primarily American sports like basketball?

I know you and few others here support the big LA teams. Outside of a handful of players from those two clubs and couple others here and there like Giovinco, I've only seen the rejects from Latin America and Americans who can't pass or dribble with skill compared to other leagues. I've gone to live matches where I was bored to death with the one or two average Latino players/retirees being the only ones able to pass to the same team. Everything else just seems too random and chaotic. "Let me boot the ball in that direction and hope someone gets to it" 100x over
The managers suck. Tactics are trash, and they have no clue what they're doing.

I bet if we started watching College soccer games it would be the same trash too. We need experience from outside of our trash selection of US coaches and need to bring in managers who have worked on the big stages.

Half the coaches in the MLs played in the MLS. If the MLS sucked before, why would we bring the guys with the same trash mentality back in to coach teams now? Thats just more trash.

MLS is nowhere near perfect but it’s far from a crap league. And yes, Liga MX may be more popular, and probably of better quality, but the gap between the best of the bunch in Liga MX and MLS isn’t as big as it was in years past.

@rck3sactown is also right when he says it’s an acquired taste.

Yup, that's what I meant by mentioning that there are leagues with lesser known players that are more entertaining because they use actual tactics, and you can tell what's going on. I would rather watch less talented players play than the headless chicken formations I've seen in most MLS matches I've watched

#$$#, as boring as Mourinho's teams are to watch, you can at least tell that he's trying to get 1 point from every match. MLS is just like "@$#$ it!!!" with nonstop reckless passing, crosses, and tackles. I went to watch Kaka some years back (Orlando vs SJ) and that was probably the worst game I've ever seen in my life, other than Portugal vs Croatia in Euro 16

*Takes eurosnob hat off*

We can easily be one of the top leagues in the world if we open the system for all teams to earn their spot in. We have the bread and the resources but at the same time, we have beta owners who'd rather spend on washed euro player instead of looking within minority communities for talent. Coaching is trash as well, can yout ******* believe they stopped doing rondos?! :lol. also, where do the $150 mil expansion fees goes to when some teams paid much less before that amount was set? Beck's got a ******* discount ffs! Parents getting priced out spending racks on racks on racks a year, No wonder kids here quit at such a young age. The closed system that is set right now stifles development on all levels. NONE of these MLS, USL (and all levels below) teams know what real pressure is because their attitude is like **** it, there's always next year because no team is going down. These ******** drafts rewards failure and they need to be done away with. I hope that now we have a world cup coming that there will be proper changes made but honestly, its gonna be the same ol ****. /End rant

Pardon me brahs, too much whiskey and Maradona :{

Few hours to go guys! Cant sleep and need to be up in 5 hours for work lol. Man i hope is a great day of futbol. Going to be war in the field.

The manager thing is a great point. Tata has been a God send for Atlanta United and im so happy our club got him instead of some dude thats been around the way as a MLS manager

For those who may not know about Uruguay and why they have 4 stars despite winning 2 World Cups this is why
uruguay-stars%2B%25283%2529.jpg

"Uruguay won two World Cups (in 1930, the first FIFA World Cup ever held, and in 1950). Before that, they won two Olympic Gold Medals with their football team, in 1924 and 1928. FIFA acknowledges the 2 Olympic gold medals from 1924 and 1928 as World Titles.Furthermore, FIFA only acknowledges the 1924 and 1928 Olympics as world titles because the Olympics before 1924 did not allow professionals to play and the Olympics after 1928 became U-23 like they are today."

My opinion about mls isn’t snobby. That’s a total mischaracterization. The play from about 95% of the league is absolutely terrible by any measureable standards. What’s worse is the league leadership will do nothing to improve the game but only to maximize profits. I also don’t appreciate that ever single one of the executive positions are held by a white person. I think corporate America has proven how dangerous & terrible it is when there is no diversity among executive ranks. This league’s sole aim is for profit only. It’s very clear. Crass capitalism/commercialism at its finest. Also the marketing does indeed suck. League is poorly poorly marketed.

Love this guy even more if true.

As much as I would love for it to happen and as funny as it'd be,I feel like this is just a transparent ploy to get 'Pool to cough up the asking price

Happened with Mane and Firmino before, mention rival big clubs interest (Real last week,United this week) and negotiations wrap up shortly after
