Longterm I’m not too concerned about Doncic. I AM concerned about the Mav’s roster building, Cuban and them have shown they’re capable of making terrible FA decisions.

Dirk bailed them out again and again and won a championship by the skin of their teeth. Masked a lot of mistakes. Now they have this huge Porzingis contract and the man can’t stay healthy. This team could be battling for low seeds for a while.

It’s a big difference in how being a six seed with really good numbers is viewed by some in this thread depending on the player

I’m not saying Luka isn’t gonna be a great player but this trying to peg him as the next Bron type figure gotta chill out

I did not compare his playing style to Lin. What I did suggest was that the league figured out Lin's weakness, and then took away his strengths. To Lin, the comparison was about hype.

Again, I do not consider a comparison to Williams to be an insult. Deron was a problem for quite a few years.
Okay, I got you. Do you think Luka has a weakness that could be exploited such that his strengths could be neutralized? I think the comparison to JLin’s hype is a little disrespectful. I understand part of it was because of his race but it was also because he was an undrafted Harvard grad playing on the Knicks. Luka was a Top 5 and is producing way ahead of schedule. 29/9/9 at any stage of your career deserves hype, let alone if it’s before you can legally drink

I don’t have problems with the Deron Williams comp. He was a beast and at the time, I think I actually preferred him to CP (probably because I saw more of myself in him than CP  ). Only issue I might take with the comparison is if you think he’ll flame out as quickly (ie a 21 year old only has a few more years left of play at this/that level).

Thanks for your clarifications though my man :nthat

at 20 bron was 27/7/7 and lead a Cavs team to a 4th seed winning 40 games. At 21 Bron was 31/7/6 winning 50 games.

Luka at 20 was 29/8/8. They won 43 games. there is no next Bron but you can at least see the statistical comparisons. What you do with them is up to you.

His playing style reminds me of Williams, the same bounce, the same groove, but Doncic is indeed bigger. I do not know what caused Williams's burnout, but I do think that with his carrying the Mavs as he is doing, playing as he does, will indeed cause such a burnout for Doncic.

The excitement around Lin was justified. It was the Knicks, Melo seemingly bagging it, fans at the Garden needed something to cheer for. Being the media market that we are, NYC, hype caught up. He was fresh and new, Lin was, as is Doncic. He is the semi white dude, not an american born citizen like Larry Bird, who can suddenly moonwalk. Those who invented the move have already moved on to the next thing.

We all know that there is an audience that needs something to cheer for, because LeBron is making everything about race.

Speaking of the great white hope, sucks that Duncan Robinson is a bit old based on NBA standards. Has a chance to break every 3pt record.

The season makes record is pretty untouchable for a non star player I feel like. At some point you just have not let that guy take 10 3s and he won't have the leeway to take many "bad" ones.

Today’s slate of games is pretty underwhelming. Only ones that I’ll probably check out are Ja v. Trae and PHX v. SAC.

As far as the MVP race goes, Luka is going to need the stats AND be a top 4 seed, IMO. Might be tough if they struggle a bit without Porzingis.

KD and the Nets keep playing like this and the award will probably be his. Will have the stats and the narrative.

You’re right Making an average of five 3s a game is pretty insane. He won’t be getting the 35-40 min Curry was getting.
