correct me if i'm wrong but I think a lot of people forget that the year before Amare won it over Yao even though they had similar #s because the Suns went to the playoffs (won 1 game more than the Rockets) so everybody thought Melo would have easily won it because of similar #s & leading the Nuggets to the playoffs.

If that one year is the only year you could even make a flimsy argument for Melo being better than Bron I think the award went to the right person

Yep.

Nuggets won 17 games prior and melo led them as a 19-20 year older to 42 wins in the rough west conference. He ended Portland and Utah’s streak of playoff appearances. It should have been co rookie of the year.

Only one of these players is currently on an nba court. so...he better.

when the nets signed a former all star, memes & excuses are made. but when the lakers signed another one, nothing. interesting.

Sure. They have both made All Star games. However, LMA is 35 years old and and not what people think he is anymore and Andre Drummond is a looter in the riot having only really ever put up numbers on ****** Pistons teams. EYE think both signings are being completely overrated to a degree. Either way, for you to even intimate the impact would be similar between the idealized/“prime”/All Star versions of LMA and Drummond, which is the vision people have in their head for some reason, is intellectually dishonest.

You clearly know misplaced outrage at the LMA signing is that they are adding a guy with 7X AS appearances and 5X All NBAs as opposed to Drummond who is only a 2X AS with 1 All NBA.

Furthermore, taking a step back and looking at the twi teams, I know you are aware part of the reason for the memes is that the Nets have 6 All Stars with 41 AS appearances (KD - 11, Harden - 9, Aldridge - 7, Irving - 7, Blake - 6, Jordan - 1) while the Lakers have have 3 All Stars with 27 appearances (Bron - 17, AD - 8, Drummond - 2).

I’m not saying I agree with the memes because I don’t but I know you know why the internet in 2021 would react differently to a team signing a future HOFer than they would to a team signing a perennial laughing stock that has been looting his whole career.

What does Bron clearly being better than Melo in Years 2-18 or Bron being hurt while Melo is healthy in Year 18 have to do with a Year 1 award?

AD looks a long ways away tbh. Still favoring that other leg and moving very stiff and slow. Doesn't look 2 weeks away to me.

Imagine me and you play one on one and you beat me by one point. Really it was a tie but out of pity for you I'll give you the victory. After that I proceed to beat you 10 million straight times and it's never really close. But all you ever talk about is that first game that you really didn't even win

maybe he's just taking it slow. although he does look slower than 1/2 a speed.

I also remember the old Mavs doing the same with Shawn Bradley and Raef Lafrentz (when he jumped and/or started at the 5)
Was a staple of the Dirk days where he'd be the guy setting the screen at the 3p-line.

”Really it was a tie.” There are no ties in one-on-one. You either win or you don’t whereas in the case of Bron and Melo the league could have done co-ROY. Regardless, unless you decide to add another ridiculous element to your anecdote, I won fair and square in the inaugural game. Just like the MVP is a regular season award and the Finals MVP is a Finals award, ROY is only about your first season. Awards must be looked at in their respective vacuums.

To say that 21/6/6 on 42/29/75 and a 35-47 record in the East is categorically better than 21/6/3 on 43/32/78, a 43-39 record in the West and a playoff berth is ridiculous.

I don’t care as much as other posters but to act as if Bron’s output and results THAT SEASON were leaps and bounds above Melo’s is rubbish.
