He played point forward in high school. Check his high school highlights.
In college he played off ball but he did a lot of ball handling.
In his rookie yr he was really bad handling the ball outside of the paint, I admit. I think he didn't have his explosion because of he was recovering from his surgery/weight
I'm saying if you were only paying to his NBA rookie season, I can see why you wouldn't think he couldn't handle the ball

Any doubts I had about Zion prior to him getting to the league related to him being “short” for a power player and with relatively short arms. So I wondered if he’d have more difficulty scoring about the rim against NBA talent. Those doubts were completely unfounded, obviously
