I think the expectation in 2018 and 2019 was the Thunder were favored respectively vs the Jazz and Blazers.

Favored as a 6 against that Blazers team that made the WCF? No shot.

In the 50s, guys had jobs in the off-season. Elgin Baylor was serving in the Army and hooping for the Lakers on the weekends. Would Russell Westbrook (or any modern player) be the players they currently are if they were born 1930s instead of the 80s and 90s? Of course not.

All we can do is compare players to their contemporaries and in that regard Cousy >>>>>>>>>>>> Westbrook.

He was horrible in both....and got outplayed and out gamed By Patrick Beverly in 2017. Rubio in 2018. Lillard in 2019. And he was just flat out horrible in the bubble.

Russ has shown that at the peak of his powers...he’s a great #2 option on a playoff contending team. That can be a takeaway. But it’s fair to say he should have his team in better position and can be better, and call out his flameouts in playoff series. Doesn’t mean he isn’t great.

No he doesn’t . He won mvp in 2017. 4 years ago. In the 2017 season, he flamed out terribly. Same thing in 2018, after huge expectations. And then in 2019...put out by a guy viewed at the same level as him, and some had Dame being better. AndThen last year...still viewed as a top 10-15 player, and a part of the best backcourt in the league, he flamed out too.

He’s currently averaging a triple double...yet again. Playing with the leading scorer in the league....and his team has about the same record as the Cleveland cavaliers. That’s fair to bring up in the convo about him right now.

It does not take away from the fact that he’s an all time great pg or hall of famer. Idk why ppl can’t get that.

Uhhhh that’s the point. The whole idea is that playing with HOF Russ that the team should IMPROVE teams record not stay the same or perhaps be even worse. In fact a similar win% just proves that Russ is a great player but he doesn’t impact winning, at least at this point of his career.

Yes. Russ was. He was having a pretty good year in Houston ., although he regressed. And was an all nba and all star guy.

Paul George finished top 3 in mvp voting in 2019. And was looked at as a top 10 player.

Paul George and Carmelo + Russ had huge expectations as the new “big 3” in the 2017-2018 season, and they all disappointed.

Russ is a part of that. It’s fine for him to shoulder some of that criticism.
