Syracuse coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Ryan Nassib will still be listed as his starting quarterback, but that Greg Paulus will receive enough snaps to have a fair chance to compete for the role.

Marrone said he was impressed with Paulus' ability to recall concepts and certain plays he was tested on during a recent visit with the coach. Marrone has yet to see Paulus actually throw a football.

Paulus announced Thursday that he would return to his hometown of Syracuse to play football after four years of basketball at Duke.

Marrone said Monday he is is open to using Paulus or any other quarterback in a "package" but that he does "not believe in limiting or labeling" quarterbacks, particularly this early in the process.

Paulus' ability, which Marrone has culled through his high school tapes, has impressed the coach, who said he is "excited" to find out what Paulus can do on the field physically.

Marrone also said he had to seriously consider Paulus as an option based on what he found out about the quality of Paulus' workout last month with the Green Bay Packers.

always good to have someone who knows what they're talkin about cuz lord knows i don't know +!*+

I'd go Randall Cobb b/c He could go QB/WR/PR/KR/Some RB too (i.e. some wildcat)

And he'd be LEGIT at 4 of those 5 spots.

McCluster is more Preston Parker than Percy Harvin.

-- Keeping with some of the board themes. Say Chuck Weis gets dumped at ND this year and they can't persuade No. 7 or Jim Tressel to take the job. Who could they hire. Whoever they hire has to be considered a strong recruiter in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as competitive with recruiting in one of the "Big 3" talent states (Florida, Texas, California). Mark Dantonio (Michigan State) is an interesting choice especially considering he's on his seocnd HC job and has good ties in Michigan and Ohio with increasingly better connections in Florida. Brian Kelly is a really interesting choice, he wouldn't be as expensive and he's won EVERYWHERE he's gone. I know a few players that play under him and they love everything he's about. Main problem with Kelly is that he'd have to adjust his recruiting for the major differences in academic standards between ND and Cincinnati. The sleeper could be Greg Schiano, he's does very well in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida and he has had to deal with getting kids in a tougher academic environment so he understands the deal on that end.

Is there somewhere I can find 40 times for all, or a majority of the players? Obviously they are always unofficial or whatever, but where would I go tocheck those out?

Marve to Purdue
Source: Marve to choose Purdue
Barring an unforeseen change of mind, former Miami quarterback Robert Marve is expected to announce later this week he'll accept a scholarship to play for Purdue, a person familiar with the decision said Tuesday.

Marve, who had also considered walking on at Tennessee, wants to visit in person with members of his family before formally announcing his choice later this week. He has developed a comfort level with Purdue coaches and loves the opportunity to play in an offense where he can show off his passing and running skills.

Marve had all but announced a decision to play for Purdue when he began pondering walking onto Tennessee. Miami had not released him from his scholarship to play for the Volunteers.

When Tennessee became a possible option, Marve struggled with the choice, because he would have a chance to compete for the Volunteers' starting quarterback position in 2010, but would have to pay to attend Tennessee in 2009.

Marve will have two years of eligibility remaining, starting with the 2010 season.

His father, Eugene Marve, said earlier that they were moving deliberately in order to make the best possible decision.

"We took a semester off school to get this done and get it done right," he said last week. "So we think it's important to make the best and the right decision for him. He's taken his due process. We don't see this as a drag-along process. This is a month and a time that this decision should be made, because summer school starts next month and we want to be right on time with that."

Hmm, I'll wait, Ive seen some of Joe Schad's work first hand.

here's what The word is from the Vol insiders.

Everyone except Joe Shad thinks Marve is a Vol
Sab's insider said it is a "done deal"...
FlVol53 said it is a "done deal"...
justingroves said he is a Vol...
GVX had a story early yesterday saying that Marve has already informed the coaches that he is a Vol...
Hubbs thinks he's gonna be a Vol...
ncaafootball.fanhouse.com thinks he is gonna be a Vol...
Bryant thinks he's gonna be a Vol...
The Tampa Tribune thinks he will be a Vol...
And my guy says vol
*shrugs*

I def. Wouldnt mind havin another 4* QB on campus

Tigerdroppings.com provides a bit more insight on the specifics of the Pahokee principals actions:

"As Brent covered Eddie Gran, and a few other staff members did get a chance to meet with Pahokee head coach Blaze Thompson. From what I've heard there aren't anymore issues with the coaching staff after speaking with the Pahokee coaches. Now the Principal, and other admin people associated with the program still have a problem with the Tennessee staff and I can tell you that is currently being worked on. The misconception is that the staff just got kicked out, and were never allowed on the Pahokee campus. That's not true because Gran, and others met with Thompson for a good hour earlier in the day. However, the principal wasn't aware of that visit so when they came back the coaches for Tennessee were denied entry."

Man, I switched jobs and now half of my office is Nebraska alums.

Imma shoot myself in the head if I have to listen to these delusional Husker fans all season...

i wanna see what demps does this year.. there's word of him playing some receiver this year. let's see if he has the hands...

Fannin has so much GOOD comp at the rb position, that I don't think he's gonna get enough burn to show his talents.

Sorry for the delay. I would say that Mathis is #1 at corner for them right now. He and Cullen Christian should both commit to us. That takes care of 2. Hicksseems to be a sparty. Kid can play though Seems like Wood loved ND and Michigan has since moved on. I think they believe they have a shot at Reshad Knight andNickell Robey. Both are going to be TOUGH pulls if a FSU for Knight or Miami for Nickell offer rolls around. EDIT: Don't worry about not possibly notgetting Latwan Anderson. Dad is a major headcase and Latwan has unfortunately become the same. Kid is fast but not a world beater from many accounts.Interesting to see if Ginn can change him and get him a Browneye offer. Eugene Clifford type future but with a different vice. Weird that they didn'taccept Travis Williams verbal. Seems like they feel they may have better shots at guys higher up than him. I think their secondary could be Dior, Cullen, MRob,Nickell/Knight, with several other guys in there. If they can get 3 corners and another safety like Demar Dorsey or Tony Grimes, that would be an amazing haulto go with Thomas Gordon, JT, Witty and Vlad. Hopefully they can grab a commit at the BBQ. Cullen and Derrick Bryant are two to look for. Hopefully Marcus Rushtoo.

Tennessee plans to self-report another NCAA secondary violation after a high school recruit was mentioned by name Tuesday on Lane Kiffin's Twitter page.

Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said it wasn't actually Kiffin who penned the post in question but an employee in the football office who was updating Kiffin's Twitter page for him.

The post was up for about an hour during the afternoon before being removed by Tennessee officials. It read: "It's a beautiful day in Knoxville, Tennessee today. I was so exited to hear that J.C. Copeland committed to play for the Vols today!"

NCAA rules prohibit coaches and athletic department employees from commenting about unsigned prospects or publicizing them in any way.

Copeland, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound defensive end from LaGrange, Ga., is an ESPNU 150 Watch List member. He chose Tennessee over Auburn, Ole Miss, Maryland, UAB, Central Florida, East Carolina and Southern Miss.

"It was one of Lane's personal assistants, and it was his first day on the job," Hamilton explained. "He posted the message on Lane's Twitter account without asking compliance. It was an inadvertent error, but it's still a violation and one of those things where you've got to know what the deal is. We'll report it."

This is the second time under Kiffin that Tennessee has had to self-report a violation involving an unsigned prospect. In February, Kiffin mentioned running back Bryce Brown by name on a radio talk show in Knoxville and referred to him as a great player.

Tennessee self-reported the violation to the NCAA, but Brown was still allowed to sign with the Vols.

Kiffin has been a lightning rod for controversy ever since his hiring on Dec. 1 and has managed to keep things stirred up with some of his remarks about rival schools.

He was reprimanded by the SEC after erroneously accusing Florida coach Urban Meyer of cheating the day after signing day, and the Vols have had to self-report a handful of secondary violations involving Kiffin and the football program.

Kiffin and his Tennessee assistants were also recently banned from the Pahokee High School campus in Florida by the school principal after Kiffin in February made some demeaning comments about the high school and the community during a speech to Tennessee boosters and fans.

Kiffin has since apologized on a couple different occasions, and Tennessee assistant Eddie Gran was allowed back on Pahokee's campus on Tuesday.
UCLA tailback Aundre Dean will transfer
By Chris Foster
May 20, 2009
UCLA tailback Aundre Dean has been given his release and will look to transfer, Jennifer Dean, his mother, said.

Aundre Dean, slowed by an ankle injury as a true freshmen last season, gained 22 yards in 10 carries. He will look at schools closer to Houston,
"He will go some place where he has the opportunity to play," Jennifer Dean said. "He has listed about 14 schools he is going to look at. We already have a couple of visits scheduled."

Among those will be Texas, Texas Christian and Texas A&M. Dean, who gained 5,488 yards in high school, originally committed to Texas A&M before switching to UCLA.

He becomes the second tailback to seek his release. Raymond Carter, a red-shirt freshman last season, is also seeking to transfer, thinning the herd in the Bruins' backfield.
UCLA has four tailbacks returning, including sophomore Derrick Coleman and red-shirt freshman Johnathan Franklin. Christian Ramirez, who will be a junior, is listed first on the depth chart. Tailbacks Dalton Hilliard and Damien Thigpen are part of the 2009 recruiting class that will arrive in August.

im going to go out on a limb and say pretty much nothing

Interesting how Lebron grew up a fan of all the best teams during his childhood. Let's see so far we have:

Cowboys: Best team of the 90's
FSU (if true) Won two national championships (I think, correct me if I'm wrong Dre) and a bazillion top 5 finishes in a row while LBJ was a kid
Yankees: Nuff said.
I'm sure he was a Bulls fan too.

Dude was the original frontrunner4life.
