'09 COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFF-SEASON THREAD-recruiting/Coaching Changes/Transfers

ACC has games on demand too. I don't know if they're still up though but I know during the season they have replays of almost every ACC game on demand.

They were $151 each but then those service fees and the mandatory 2 day air jacked the price up. Its still a bargain considering where the seats are and beingin the 3rd row.

Hopefully the game is better than the one y'all had last year.

Dre, I'm a Gamecock fan. We won the game 31-0. What's so

aboutthat?

Dre thats bogus that were in the middle of ACC country and we don't even get ACC channel/on demand.

Football season can not come soon enough.

In a class that is widely perceived to be moderate at the quarterback position, we feel that many of the guys who could be top performers at the next level are prospects that, even in July, have seen little interest come their way on the recruiting trail.

Chase Rettig (San Clemente, Calif.) is one of those prospects.

Rettig had one of the best individual workouts I have seen from a quarterback this spring and summer. He has been to several camps as well as Elite 11 regional workouts, but he has not looked quite like the guy we saw Saturday. On a day that the competition was surely heating up, especially when Joe Montana started taking snaps, Rettig got better and better.

This is a player who had a strong sophomore campaign followed by a disappointing junior season. Now that he has transferred to San Clemente High School, in Orange County, he could post staggering numbers as a senior, and might be on the verge of multiple scholarship offers coming his way in the fall. We have seen countless prospects in this class with several offers that possess nowhere near Rettig's physical tools. It makes you scratch your head as to why.

What impressed us so much about Rettig was his drop speed, set up and balance on five- and seven-step drops. He also was skilled in pocket movement in drills tailored to test one's ability to throw on the move or off balance. His accuracy and ability to make any type of throw were off the charts on Day 3. At one point during the workout, he nailed seven or eight throws in a row, displaying terrific footwork and mechanics.

If you have heard anything about Rettig it is that he has a strong arm -- that is obvious. This week, for the first time, we saw him display some touch and ability to change ball speeds. He's looser and more comfortable with his upper-body control, and the ball jumped out of his hand in a fluid and consistent manner.

Coaches are constantly scrutinizing a quarterback's delivery mechanics, but few are going to find many flaws in the release of Barry Brunetti (Memphis, Tenn./University). The dual-threat scrapper clearly possessed the combination of velocity and fluidity when getting rid of the football. Much like Sims, with improvement on his footwork from under center, he could blossom into a fine player. To his credit, Brunetti picked the right school to showcase his abilities in West Virginia.

When Scroggins camped here, he was overheard telling someone that he didn't want to throw too much on a sore hip because he wanted to be ready for USC's camp.
Chase Rettig came to UT camp and was impressive. He was impressive @ USC camp. He was impressive @ the Super 7 camp. It may be time to step out and offer this guy
...
Also Tommy Rees is a 6'2" 190ish pound prospect from Lake Forest High School in Illinois. Doesn't have a huge list of schools interested in him though Notre Dame has offer a scholarship to him of late. Notre Dame has a fairly clogged up depth chart plus they already have at least one quarterback committed in their 2010 class which would bode well if UT decided to crank up its pursuit of this prospect. he does or has recently received a scholarship offer from UT. That may well be true but he would be the Number 2 quarterback taken in the class to complement a Jessie Scroggins or a Chase Rettig.

That's that +@%%#@%%.

I read a rumor that we were going to let Ike Whitaker(anybody remember him?) back on the team so that we'd have more depth at the QB position in case Tyrodgets hurt...but Ike F'd up and crashed his car and caused $1k worth of damage back in April and has to go to court again. I swear this dude is the biggest!$%! up I've ever seen. He was garbage as a QB anyways, but still. Also Zack Luckett (who was supposed to be a starting WR last year til he got kicked offdue to a DUI) is back on the team as a walk-on playing special teams or something. Incoming freshmen RB David Wilson (#4 RB according to Rivals) won MVP at theJunior World Football championships. The competition was buns, but he averaged 12.4 YPC and had 414 yds and 8 TD's in 3 games. I'm not sure if he'sgonna play this year, I think we should RS him until our backfield isn't so crowded, but he's a beast. Runs a 4.31 and squats 605

edit: hmmmm seems undersized but i guess he has speed.....I wish we could get another Roscoe Parrish type receiver again...but i'm starting to realize theonly player that size whoever came close to him at any school was Tyrone Prothro

Yeah Dre thats what I have been hearing. The kid was good in HS and I thought he could have played real early at Michigan but he loves FSU. If he would havegot some burn early I think he would have been a handful. He and RoJo were 2 that Michigan wanted badly but to see that neither is an All America is verysurprising. I thought they both would do big things. Hopefully Dionte can get right I love seeing MI guys do good out of state.

Yeah, but at least Rojo has been on the field and made some plays. Dionte hasn't even been on the field yet. RS his frosh year (I believe) and then Hurtbasically out for the season last year. I mean, the talent is there (or at least was at one point and time) but we'll see. I'll give him a year at fullstrength before I judge him. But if he can't get major burn when we on;y really have one good CB

. Hopefully T-Buck can do some things w/ him.

Jakhari has offers from LSU, Bama, UF, etc......and he wants to commit here but can't because he hasn't spoken to any of Miami's coaches lately.

We have 10 commits but I really hate the way we're recruiting.
