From what I hear he is a +1 on our board. He is the only non-commited DB we are recruiting, but looks like he is going to wait till close to NSD to make his decision. I'd be suprised if we get him as our DB class is already stacked. He claims us as his fav now, but he has been high on ND and UGA for a while. Plus he's giving the Vols a visit. I would say he lands at one of those three.

at Dorsey's ranking. I know Lugs has a thing for athletes and potential (only service to put Demps in their top 100 couple years back), but #11 for Dorsey is

.

My bad on post above.

QFT

Dorsey is probably the fastest kid in this class but his skills are too raw for him to be in the top 20. If he makes it to Gainesville, hopefully coach Bedfordcan max out his potential.

I don't understand how they can't have Seantrel #1. Kid is a the best OL recruit in years. Also, they have Dior Mathis way too high. Kid is maybe5'7"... not that I don't want him to come to MSU...

As usual ESPN's list is garbage
My main problems:

Sentral at #4 (should be #1 or 2)
Dowling at #7 (he's a top 40 kid but not top 10)
Seastrunk at #20 (should be #1 RB)
Dorsey at #11 is the biggest joke on that list (he's just an athlete, nothing more)
Shariff Floyd at #74 (top 20 type player possibly top 10)
Lemonier at #92 (He's a top 5 player in FL and that's better than 92 in the nation)
Dillion Baxter at #130
Ego, McCay, Martin at #142-144, seriously?

Not a major problem but I'd put Powell at #2, he's dominated at every camp he's been at and it's been against the best.

Big East media day:
Bearcats prepare to defend title, more from Big East media day
Story Highlights
Cincinnati is not happy about having to open on the road against Rutgers

The defending champs finished third in a preseason poll; Pitt took top spot

News on the Big East's bowl deals, award-worthy quarterbacks and more
By Ken Davis, Special to SI.com

NEWPORT, R.I. -- When Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly received a copy of his team's 2009 schedule, he made it clear to Big East officials he wasn't pleased with opening the season against a conference opponent on the road.

"I screamed," Kelly said Tuesday. "I yelled. It did no good."

Kelly's Bearcats debut Sept. 7 at Rutgers in a nationally televised (ESPN) game that will set the early tone in a wide-open Big East race. Kelly hasn't backed down from scheduling tough opponents in his two seasons at Cincinnati, but he's also very protective of his program. The Bearcats play at South Florida and at Pittsburgh this season and host West Virginia.

"We are a [Bowl Championship Series] league and we have an automatic qualifier into the BCS for the next four years," Kelly said. "At some time we have to be able to step back a little bit and [ask] what's in the best interests of our teams, more so than what's in the best interests of our conference."

Opening with a conference road game will drastically alter preparation plans for Cincinnati, picked to finish third in the preseason media poll announced at Tuesday's annual conference media day. The Bearcats replace 10 defensive starters from the 11-3 Big East championship team that lost to Virginia Tech in last year's Orange Bowl, but will not have a lot of time to test the waters in camp.

"It's probably the biggest change that I've had to make in my time here at Cincinnati," Kelly said. "You don't have time to mess around with who's the starting defensive end. You don't have time to mess around two-platooning. You've got to get your best guys ready to play in camp."

While the Bearcats will be thinking about Rutgers when they open camp on Aug. 11, athletics officials will be thinking about how far the program has come during Kelly's brief tenure. Season ticket sales are up eight percent since the trip to the Orange Bowl. Kelly said he was prepared for success when he took the job on Dec. 4, 2006, but admits "BCS" wasn't part of the program's vocabulary then and no plans to expand Nippert Stadium existed.

Even Cincinnati's players have been surprised by the 21 victories and two bowl appearances in the past two seasons.

"It's been like going from nothing to something," said senior defensive back Aaron Webster, the only returning starter on Cincinnati's defense. "I really didn't think about it when I came in [in 2006]. I was thinking we could be a very good team. Obviously this has been a dream, but I'm not trying to wake up any time soon."
Anyone's race
Webster may not have to wake up from that dream. Though Cincinnati finished third in the preseason poll, it received the same number of first-place votes (eight) as No. 1 choice Pittsburgh.

The Bearcats' first opponent, Rutgers, finished fifth in the poll and didn't receive a single first-place vote. However, the Scarlet Knights may have the most favorable conference schedule with Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and South Florida all at home. The Mountaineers finished second in the poll with five first-place votes, while South Florida finished fourth with three.
No bowl deal yet
New Big East commissioner John Marinatto was disappointed he couldn't announce the conference's new bowl lineup for 2010 at media day, but he was able to say definitively the conference will not continue its shared partnership with the Big 12 in the Gator Bowl.

"We're not going to be in a hybrid," Marinatto said. The Big East currently holds bowl contracts with the Gator, Sun, Meineke Car Care, Papajohns.com, St. Petersburg and International bowl games.

"We are in constant discussions with a number of bowls across the country," Marinatto said. "We have three criteria that are long established regarding what it is we look for in postseason opportunities: destination, location and opponent. We feel good about where we are. It may not necessarily be where we've been."
Etc.
• West Virginia's Jarrett Brown, South Florida's Matt Grothe and Cincinnati's Tony Pike were among the 33 quarterbacks on the Davey O'Brien Award watch list released Monday. The award goes to the nation's top QB. Brown takes over the starting spot after three seasons as Pat White's backup. "This is something I've dreamed of for years," Brown said. "I can't wait. Playing on Saturday and being in the limelight is what I've always wanted. It's here." Grothe needs 287 yards to tie White's Big East career record of 10,529 yards of total offense. Pike wasn't on Cincinnati's preseason depth chart in 2008, but injuries gave him a chance and he threw for 2,407 yards and 19 touchdowns. "In the first week of camp, I didn't get a rep," Pike said. "I was fifth-string. This is an unbelievable feeling. If you would have told me I'd be sitting at Big East media day a year ago, I would have said you were crazy."

• Connecticut coach Randy Edsall said the Huskies are playing their toughest schedule ever. UConn plays non-conference road games against Ohio University, Baylor and Notre Dame and home games against North Carolina and Rhode Island. "We're going to play two BCS conference teams every year," Edsall said. "This year we have three and we don't ever want to do that again."

• New Syracuse coach Doug Marrone hails from the Bronx, N.Y., and he's a huge Yankees fan. He wouldn't mind one bit if the Orange become part of the college football series planned for new Yankees Stadium. Army would be the perfect opponent, he said. "I don't know if I could get enough tickets [for family and friends]," Marrone said. "That would be the only problem I would have."

Big East coaches keep on the sunny side

August 5, 2009 9:35 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Brian Bennett

NEWPORT, R.I. -- At the Big East football coaches meetings on Sunday, league officials handed out Maui Jim sunglasses as gifts to the participants. The gesture was supposed to signify sunny optimism for the conference. Think the 1980s song, "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades."

Depends on who's doing the looking. From the outside, the Big East appears to be in a down cycle for 2009. Many Top 25 polls exclude all league teams, there don't seem to be any legitimate national title contenders and the star power of recent years has dimmed. Mountain West Conference supporters wonder why the Big East has a BCS slot and their league doesn't, and given the way Utah, TCU and others have performed, maybe they have a point.

But, hey, the Big East has been here before. Coaches and officials are used to having to defend the league from detractors, and they came ready to do that again at Tuesday's media day.

"At this time last year, that same question was asked," Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly said. "Even though the Big East has done well in in bowl games, it's still the SEC and Big Ten. We're still going to suffer from the same perception. We just have to keep on keeping on."

Big East coaches stuck to their usual talking points while painting a bright picture of the league: wins in three of the past four BCS games, overall bowl record, key regular-season nonconference wins and more players drafted into the NFL per team this year than any other league.

South Florida's Jim Leavitt was particularly vocal in his support of the league after being asked if the league's bowl record was in some ways propped up by wins over teams from lesser conferences in the lower-tier games (such as UConn beating Buffalo and the Bulls defeating Memphis this year, Rutgers taking out Ball State a year ago).

"I guess West Virginia beating North Carolina (in last year's Meineke Car Care Bowl) was not a good matchup," Leavitt said sarcastically. "I think that's a bunch of baloney."

There's no doubt that the league lost a lot of star players from 2008. Guys like Donald Brown, LeSean McCoy, Kenny Britt and Pat White would have attracted a lot of attention at media day. Instead, the biggest names were Matt Grothe and George Selvie from South Florida and Tony Pike from Cincinnati.

The Big East media guide, which normally features star returning players on the cover, instead has a silhouette of an anonymous football player on the front, with this year's returnees on the back. West Virginia's media guide cover has the team logo with blurry shots of players in the background.

"I think it's pretty clear that we lost some great players from this league to the NFL," Kelly said. "The league now comes down to who is the best team. It's not about Pat White taking over a game or Donald Brown or Brian Brohm taking over a game. It's about the best team."

Coaches tried to paint the wide-open nature of the league -- four teams received first-place votes in the preseason poll, while a fifth team (Rutgers) has been picked by some as the favorite -- will make for an exciting season.

"I think in years past it was probably a little clear-cut who would be the favorite going in," said Dave Wannstedt, whose Pittsburgh team was made the slight No. 1 choice in the media poll. "If you ask me right now, you could pick anyone. I think this will be a year that might come down to the last weekend."

Some teams could emerge as powers. Pitt certainly has the overall talent level, if it can get consistent play from its quarterback, find production at running back and locate a reliable kicker. West Virginia might have the best skill players in the league along with a stout defense and just needs to figure out its offensive line and identity.

South Florida remains ever-dangerous with Selvie and Grothe. Rutgers has a dominant offensive line and a stacked defense but lacks a proven quarterback and receivers. Cincinnati has won 22 games the past two years and will have a dynamic offense and the two-time Big East coach of the year in Kelly, whose biggest challenge is replacing nearly his entire defense.

Who knew at this time last year that Brown would lead the nation in rushing, or that Pike would emerge from the bottom of the depth chart to lead Cincinnati to the Orange Bowl? New stars are bound to announce themselves.

"There's going to be great stories that come out of this year," Leavitt said. "From where I don't know, but that's what makes it so fascinating."

The best thing the Big East can do to make others see it in the same sunny light is to win some key nonconference games early. There are plenty of opportunities, including Cincinnati's trip to Oregon State, South Florida going to Florida State, West Virginia taking on Auburn and UConn hosting North Carolina.

Just don't tell Big East officials that those are must-wins in order to keep the league from going dark.

"In terms of needing that to gain respect, I don't think we're in that situation right now," commissioner John Marinatto said. "Preseason polls and postseason polls are two different animals, and hopefully we'll be where we need to be in the end. I don't feel we need to necessarily go out and do things to gain respect. I think we've done that already."
Big East Media Day: Now, SU football program can work to prove them wrong

by syracuse.com
Joe Giblin /. APSyracuse head coach Doug Marrone talks to reporters at the Big East Conference football media day in Newport, Rhode Island, on Tuesday.

Syracuse's new head football coach Doug Marrone attended his first Big East Media Day in Newport, Rhode Island, on Tuesday, where members of the media picked SU to finish last in their annual preseason poll.

Still, coach Marrone enjoyed the experience. "I love to talk about the program," he said. "I never get tired of talking about that." Marrone didn't flinch when SU was tabbed as the worst team in the league. "The program went to something like 14 straight bowl games, but in the last four years, we've been down," Marrone said. "Obviously what we've been doing hasn't been working, so let's get at all these issues and go."

Senior defensive tackle Arthur Jones and senior tight end Mike Owen represented their team at the events in Rhode Island. Jones said things are already starting to turn around for the Orange. "It's been intense. We've all been working hard, giving it our all," he said. "We're going to be a well-conditioned team this year. Guys got a lot better this summer. It's going to be awesome to see how that transfers to the field."

To be real with you all of UF`s safety prospects are overrated. Elam? The #1 Safety in America?

I went to about 5 Dwyer games last year and he was non-existent in all 5. Surehe`s fast but that`s about it.Dorsey`s hardly a hell raiser. Dowling`s about the best of the bunch but though.

Whatever my man. I`m just going off of what I seen with myown eyes. If a dude`s not that good then he isn`t that good, no homer hate either. I thought Janoris Jenkins was the2nd best CB coming out of Florida in `08 and was kicking myself when we didn`t go hard after him.I think Gerald Christian is gonna be a beast because that`swhat my EYES are telling me. I give credit where credits due, but if it`s undeserved I`m gonna say so. UF fans think EVERYONE they recruit is as good asadvertised.....

Check one of my posts where I said that Dorsey is nothing more than an athlete and Dowling is only a top 40 type player (not top 10 like ESPN had him).

The 1st post I see you make is calling every UF DB recruit overrated and you're a FSU fan just thought it was obvious homerism. My bad.

I promise you It is not homerism .I mean hate UF of course and I hate to give ya`ll credit for anything
grin.gif
but ya`ll do have some nice gets this year (well, the past few years). And ifya`ll get Christian Green I`m gonna kill myself
mad.gif
. But all things equal, Ihonestly believe EVERY db that ya`ll are recruiting is overrated. I actually do like Riggs (even though he`s the 3rd best CB on his own team, which is atestament to how good STA is) but he`s on the outside looking in for you guys..

William Gholston will be taking Visits. USC and Florida will be 2 of them for sure. He will still end up at MSU, IMO.

Who's still in it for Luc?

Around 50 schools have made Jeff Luc a target, but he can only sign with one in the end. He has started to narrow things down, so who remains on his list? He talks with Scout about that here.

"You can say I am narrowing it down somewhat," said Jeff Luc.
When asked about a specific number, Luc said he does not have that, but he did name a list of schools that are still in contention.

"All three in-state schools (Florida, Florida State, and Miami), Southern Miss, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, and USC are all on my list still."

"I am still considering a few more other than them too, but those are definitely on my list. I have nothing final, no final list, or anything like that yet. I am still working on that."

The 6-foot-1, 240 pound linebacker out of Port Saint Lucie (FL) Treasure does not plan to wait long before he does start to finalize some visits though.

"I am not sure when I will make things official and decide on visits, but it will be soon because I am trying to graduate early," stated the top linebacker in the country.

"I don't plan to take official visits to any of the in-state schools because I will probaly just take unofficial visits to those three."

"Everybody I listed and a few more schools are ones I thinking about visiting before making my decision. I want to start deciding on some of those visits soon."

Georgia currently has a commitment from Luc's teammate Deon Rogers and Rogers has mentioned the duo could end up at the same school.

Luc didn't say it would happen, but he did not say it wouldn't either.

"If it happens, it happens, but we have to do what is best for ourselves first," said Luc. "We have talked about going to the same school, but we do not know yet what will happen."

Over the summer, Alabama, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Ohio State, Southern Miss, and Tennessee received a visit from Luc.

He will re-vist some of those schools this fall as he closes in on his big decision.

"I will be taking all of my visits during the season because of when I am graduating, so I will be busy on Saturdays during the season."
At the end of the day I think he goes to UF
