Appalachian State starting quarterback Armanti Edwards will miss two to four weeks after injuring his right foot in a mowing accident, a school spokesmanconfirmed Friday.

Edwards, a three-time All-American, was mowing the lawn at his off-campus residence Wednesday in Boone, N.C., when the incident occurred. A teammate, BrianQuick, took Edwards to Watauga Medical Center, where the senior was treated and released.

Appalachian State spokesman Mike Flynn said medical privacy laws prevented the university from releasing details about the injury. But a person familiar withthe incident said Edwards received stitches for a deep cut after the mower rolled down a steep hill back at him. However, the person said, Edwards does nothave any injuries to bones or tendons.

"First of all, we're all fortunate and grateful that Armanti wasn't more seriously injured in this accident," Appalachian State coach JerryMoore said.

"It's unfortunate for him because he has put a lot of energy into being a great leader on and off the field this summer ... But, as he'sdemonstrated many times, his toughness is second-to-none. So I'm confident that he'll be back on the field with his teammates as soon aspossible."

Moore said that Edwards is scheduled to graduate in December, after just 3½ years.

Appalachian State is scheduled to start practice Friday, and the Mountaineers open their season Sept. 5 against East Carolina, leaving Edwards' start injeopardy.

Two people familiar with former Michigan quarterback Justin Feagin said Feagin is planning to transfer to Appalachian State and would be able to play thisseason, pending determination of academic eligibility.

Edwards, 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, has led Appalachian State to two Football Championship Series titles (formerly known as Division I-AA) in three years andlast season won the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the FCS.

Last year, he was 196-of-306 passing for 2,902 yards and threw 30 touchdowns, and rushed for 941 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Information from ESPN's Joe Schad was used in this report.

hopefully he'll get invited to NY for the Heisman, son is THAT GOOD x2

Ronald Powell update:

SN100 athlete down to Florida, USC

Ronald Powell has created a dilemma for college football coaches. It's not a question of whether he'll play major college football, it's just amatter of which position he'll play. Whether it's defensive end, linebacker or tight end, it doesn't really matter-the Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley,Calif.) player has the potential to dominate at any of them.

The Sporting News Top 100 athlete told SN Today that he's "kind of wide open" as far as which school he'll attend, but when asked to mentionschools that are part of that wide-open list, he said simply, "USC and Florida".

"I don't really mess with small-time schools," Powell (6-4/250) told SN. "I really only talk with serious guys like (USC coach) Pete Carrolland (Florida coach) Urban Meyer."

3 of the top 5 teams in the BigXII this year??

i think on the preseason list 5-11 have done nothing to seperate themselves from each other

I like them but they're gonna have to learn how to play defense if they want to sniff a shot at the title. Then again they play in the BigXII.

Low Blow Newbs!

Yeah it was. I admit it. Feagin is a thief. Plain and simple. Michigan is still hoping that JT Turner (avy) and Adrian Witty (DB from Deerfield Beach in FL anda BURNER) get past the clearinghouse. They flagged them this week. Hopefully by Sunday they will be good. Can't wait to hear what gallon is like next week.

Speaking of Debo.....I picked up the Florida HS football preview magazine last night and there was a whole article written about his catch over McCaskill inthe champ.

It's been Florida and USC for a while. Should be a good fight, but I think come signing day he'll end up at SC with the depth situation and theopportunity to play in his backyard.

practice tomorrow

Teo is in at 6'2 244...I fully expect him to take over the Mike spot shortly. Toryan Smith just is stuck moving in sand most of the time.

Duval Kamara is slimmed down to 219.

Darrin Walls is #1 on the depth chart so Blanton/McNeil will battle it out for the other side
