[h1]MWC, C-USA to form new conference[/h1]

The Mountain West and Conference USA will announce a newly named conference in what is being termed a new association, not a merger of the remaining existing members.

The conference may start as early as 2013-14.

The MWC/C-USA will have a regional/divisional makeup of the current membership of the two leagues and will likely include 18 to 24 universities.

The two sides held a Sunday meeting.

The newly named league would have a membership in 2013-14 of: UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State and Air Force, Hawaii (in football only), Southern Miss, Tulsa, Marshall, Rice, UTEP, UAB, Tulane, East Carolina, Nevada and Fresno State.


"This is an exciting development that will stabilize the current conferences and create the first truly national conference with members in five time zones and television viewership from coast to coast," UNLV president Neal Smatresk said in a statement. "This partnership brings together like-minded institutions to improve the integrity and stability of intercollegiate athletics.

"We are moving our plans forward rapidly and expect to complete our conversations in the near future. Look for further announcements soon as we work together on this exciting new venture."

C-USA just lost Memphis to the Big East. C-USA had already seen SMU, Houston and Central Florida depart for the Big East.

The remaining C-USA members for the 2013-14 season are: Southern Miss, Tulsa, Marshall, Rice, UTEP, UAB, Tulane and East Carolina.

The MWC lost Boise State and San Diego State to the Big East in football and the WAC and Big West in all other sports while TCU is leaving to be an all-sports member in the Big 12.

The MWC is adding WAC members Fresno State and Nevada next season as well as Hawaii in only football (the Warriors will play all other sports in the Big West).

That leaves the MWC with UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State and Air Force.

The newly named league would have a membership in 2013-14 that includes at minumum UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State and Air Force, Hawaii (in football only), Southern Miss, Tulsa, Marshall, Rice, UTEP, UAB, Tulane, East Carolina, Nevada and Fresno State.

Boise State has been approached about joining the Big East in 2012-13 instead of the following year but the Broncos haven't made a decision. The WAC would take the Broncos in all other sports a year early but haven't been asked to do so yet, according to multiple sources.

This move would be to replace a pending West Virginia departure, two seasons early, to the Big 12.

The Big East is losing Syracuse and Pitt to the ACC, but maybe not until 2014.

More top end talent than I can remember in IL... 5 Top 100 guys in this class IMO with Issac, LTT, Bosch, Pocic and Treadwell... It has not gone un-noticed... Have to love that they are producing some good players along with their usual top notch athletes.

They usually have some good players but they're really deep for 13 - so is ohio (especially at qb). Illinois and Indiana are two of urban's targets specifically in fact.

Oklahoma State still isn't a huge factor in Texas for the top shelf kids.. They've been killing A&M in Houston, but that tide turned back the other way with the 2012 class... They didn't get a commit from one Texas kid with an A&M or UT offer in this past class and the best kids down here still don't give them a look...

TCU will be interesting to watch though.

Jake Oliver officially down to Texas, Oklahoma and A&M. Notified everyone else tonight that they were out. Think OU is probably on the outside looking in and it comes down to Texas and A&M. Likely a Horn.

Terrell Williams leaving A&M to take a gig without Raiders. A&M may go back and try to bring Hargreaves from USF again.

Seems like Mack is slow picking his recruits unlike past years where they would kinda pick the kid who was easier to sign. 5 were ready to commit during JD.

To me its not even about the players Mack recruits, its the sense of entitlement that flows throughout that entire program. Coaches have it, players have it, recruits have it.

Seventeen TCU students, including four football players, have been arrested after a six-month investigation by Fort Worth and TCU police that included students selling drugs to undercover officers, police and TCU officials said Wednesday.

"All of those arrested are drug dealers," TCU Police Chief Steven McGee said at a morning news conference.

No names were released Wednesday morning but police said arrest warrant affidavits would be available later today.

Some of the students were members of fraternities, but police said there was no indication that the fraternities themselves were involved.

Three students were arrested on campus early this morning, police said. The arrests were made calmly; no officers forced their way into dorms.

The drugs being sold, including in hand-to-hand transactions to undercover officers, included marijuana, cocaine, acid, ecstacy and prescription drugs, McGee said.

Im hearing Pachall is NOT one of them, but its all rumors at this point until the names come out later today.
