2008 NT Boxing Post Vol. Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao 12/6/08 HBO PPV

My unbiased prediction is Kessler by fairly wide Decision. Kessler can crack a bit, but i don't think he cracks THAT hard. Plus, he'll probably be alittle weary of Miranda's power and tentative since it'll be his first time in the ring since getting %@!$% slapped by Calzaghe for 12 rounds. Myincredibly biased prediction is Miranda KO 1. Let's go Pantera!

I got Kessler. This weekend I got Pacquiao by a late round KO but honestly I just hope it lives up to the first fight and we get a final conclusion not a draw.

Ok I lied, I'm here.
Once I heard Miranda/Kessler I had to stop thru.

I'm rollin with Miranda
Kessler aint got chin like pavlik, he will be counting lights

ESPN was interested in the fight, but they didn't want to paywhat the fighters wanted the purse to be. Because of that, the fight fell apart. The funniest thing is that the leading candidate for the location of thefight is Montreal, Pascal's hometown. So this fool stunk up the joint against a club fighter, lost the chance at a big fight and big payday, and now seeswhat should have been his opponent land an even bigger fight, and have that fight in his hometown. I think saying Pascal took an L in all of this is anunderstatement.

Las Vegas -- WBC World champion Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico and Filipino boxing icon and challenger Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines made weight moments agofor their highly anticipated super featherweight title fight Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino here.

Marquez came in at the super featherweight limit of 130 lbs while Pacquiao tipped in at 129 lbs amidst the huge throng of media people covering the fight, hundreds of spectators and Mexican music at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Marquez and Pacquiao both looked ripped and well conditioned during the weighin and were cordial to each other, ahead of tomorrow's expected brutalshowdown, as they met across the weighing stage facing each other during the photo-ops and shaking hands afterwards.

The official weigh-in was supervised by representatives of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and the World Boxing Council.

House Speaker Prospero Nograles and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary Lito Atienza were among the VIPS from the Philippines thatattended the weigh-in where flag-toting supporters of both Marquez and Pacquiao cheered their respective bets and jeered each other.

Texas-based Filipino ring doctor Allan Recto described Marquez as in upbeat mood who egged the crowd to cheer up while Pacquiao was smiling most of the time.

Also present were former world champions Marco Antonio Barrera, Daniel Zarragosa, Shane Mosley, Top Rank big boss Bob Arum, among others. (With reports fromAlex P. Vidal)

Both fighter look tobe in REDICULOUSLY good shape. Marquez looks barely drained at all. Manny is drained a bit, but not too terribly bid. I don't think it should effect hisaggressiveness too much.

As for the undercard, not a lot of big names bust some really nice matchups:
Steven Luevano vs. Terdsak Jandeang for Luevano's WBO Featherweight title.
Abner Mares vs. Diosdado Gabi in a 12 round Bantamweight Fight
David Diaz vs. Ramon Montano in a 10 round Non-Title Lightweight Fight

American promoters from Lou DiBella to Dino Duva to Seminole Warriors Boxing had been trying make a deal with Germany's Arena Box-Promotion to become the American promoter for heralded Yuriorkis Gamboa (9-0, 8 KOs), the electrifying undefeated 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist who reminds some of a prime Meldrick Taylor, but with better power. The winner of the sweepstakes: Gary Shaw, who will become his co-promoter, Shaw and Arena owner Ahmet Oner announced this week. And for good measure, Shaw will also become the co-promoter of Odlanier Solis (7-0, 5 KOs), Gamboa's Olympic teammate and fellow gold medalist. Both fighters will appear on Shaw's May 17 card, with Gamboa appearing on the televised portion of the HBO "Boxing After Dark" tripleheader in a major step up against Marcos Ramirez (25-0, 16 KOs). Junior middleweight prospects James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo will appear in the other two bouts on a card dubbed as "Night of the Rising Stars." Kirkland will face Eromosele Albert and Angulo is expected to meet Richard Gutierrez. "I get along very well with Gary Shaw. He is exactly the partner I have been looking for," Oner said. "I saw some of his shows and liked what I saw. He came to visit me in Hamburg and we had a long and very good meeting. He's got excellent TV dates in the USA, and I've got excellent fighters -- it just fits. I think we complement each other very well and I am convinced that we will be a strong team and have a major impact in the future." Shaw was also pleased by the arrangement: "I am excited and honored to be representing Ahmet and his roster of exciting fighters. Yuriorkis Gamboa and Odlanier Solis have the potential of becoming the greatest one-two punch in sports since Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and they will be the heart of our all-star lineup. American boxing fans are in for a treat, seeing not just the best foreign fighters, but the best fighters in the world, and I am honored to be a part of that." The deal, however, did not come without some messiness. Shaw's signing of Gamboa means he has been pulled off of DiBella's April 11 "ShoBox" card on Showtime, which neither he nor Showtime are happy about.
If you don't have a Television set on May 17th...FIND ONE.

Gamboa...

Way to go, HBO. That's what B.A.D. is about.

^

Screw that.

This is the first fight I've ever strongly wanted one fighter to beat another.

I always just root for a good fight, well not tonight

[filipino side]Marquez gonna get worked over tonight[/filipino side]

[rational side]This fight is gonna be dynamite, I can't wait, and I expect this thread to jump a good 10 pages

My boy Amo stayin neutral as always haha

Kessler definitely helped himself with that Calzaghe fight. He seems to be the most talked about/desired ($$$) MW with everyone seeking a fight against him.Miranda v. Kessler
eek.gif
that's a FOY nominee (hard to top Vazquez-Marquez3 tho)

Tonight's Main Event: if it goes past 8 I'll take JMM especially if it goes to the cards. Pacquiao has to win by ko because marquez will wear him outcounter-punching as the rounds go.

anybody know what happened to the d-hopkins v. junior witter fight. i could have sworn that the fight was scheduled for march 22 or 29

Some are speculating the Kessler-Miranda fight (not 100% done yet according to close sources, BTW) is looking at Montreal because either Pascal or Bute (alsoMontreal native) may fight on the undercard to set up a fight against the winner.

Shoot, I try to play the expert analyst on here so i gotta at least try to look neutral. Truth is i always end up rooting for one fighter or anotherduring a fight, doesn't feel right otherwise. To the degree i root for that fighter varies. For this fight i'm rootin for Marquez fairly hard, but ifhe loses in a good fight i aint gonna be mad. Now if Miranda loses to Kessler? I don't give a flying *%#% if its the greatest fight of all-time. I'dbe HEATED, cryin robbery even if he got KO'd in round 1. There aint gonna be any type of neutrality when that fight comes about.

For the record, i always try as hard as i can to make my predictions without any bias, sometimes that don't work though.
