Yeah i haven't really seen Valero fight, but he showed a lot of heart after that nasty cut.

Valero does throw punches from different angles like Pacquiao he showed some good movement from side to side too, good punch rate.

I'd like to see him fight someone perhaps Katsidis that would be a war with their styles.

Valero impressed the hell outta me.He can put together great combos then evade punches, and his chin hair is phenomenal.
 
Just finished watching the replay of the Valero fight.  He kinda reminds me more of Darchinyan than Pacman in technique.  Kinda flat footed and hands are still too low after punching.  Plus he's lunging his head and keeping his chin up while throwing punches.  Someone like JMM is gonna pick him apart.  I never did like Antonio DeMarco's style... just so average.  He doesn't suck nor is he that great, lol...  but he was able to cut Valero very early and was took Valero's punches pretty good during the early rounds.  I'd like to see Valero matched up against Juan Diaz, Katsidis as mentioned earlier, or some of the smaller 140 lbers.  
Definitely rooting for him though...  he's fought everywhere trying to get recognition.  Hope he can fight in a bigger stage soon.

BoxingScene.comspoke with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum about the future of WBC lightweightchampion Edwin Valero. The unbeaten puncher from Venezuela made asuccessful defense of his title on Saturday night in Monterrey,Mexico. Before a hostile Mexcian crowd, Valero, with a huge gash on theright side of his head, dominated interim-champion Antonio DeMarco fornine rounds. DeMarco's corner stopped the fight before the start of thetenth.  

Valero's goal continues to be a fight with WBOwelterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. In order to reach that goal,Valero's next fight might take place in the juniorwelterweight division. Arum wants Valero to fight some of the betternames at 140, including unbeaten WBO champion Timothy Bradley. 

"Valerois a very smart guy. He has a real goal. He wants to fight MannyPacquiao and that's the reason he went with us. But to fight MannyPacquiao he has to prove himself at 140. He has to get a visa. I won'thave any problem getting him licensed in Nevada now that they changedthe rule. It used to be where, if you had a bad [MRI] result, you wereout. They changed that and Valero's MRIs are perfect," Arum said toBoxingScene.

"The plan would be to move to 140. He's havingtrouble at 135. He would go up to 140 and fight some good juniorwelterweights - like Timothy Bradley."

Arum was impressed withValero's performance on Saturday. He displayed his ability to box in afight where most expected DeMarco to play the role of the boxer.

"Hehas balls, maybe too much balls. Valero showed that he has a lot moreboxing skill than people thought. A fight between him and Manny wouldbe f**king unbelievable," Arum said.

Was definitely impressed with his performance last Saturday. Would love to see Bradley/Valero but with all his issues, I don't think we're gonna see him fight on US soil in the near future. I think a fight w/ Soto in Mexico would be the next logical fight for Valero.

Junior lightweight titleholder Robert Guerrero, scheduled to face interim lightweight titlist Michael Katsidis on March 27, withdrew from the fight on Monday because his wife is seriously ill.

"It's a very tough situation," co-manager Shelly Finkel told ESPN.com. "He can't fight like that. That's what we all told him and he finally agreed. It's too much."

Guerrero's wife, Casey, was diagnosed with leukemia two weeks before then-featherweight titleholder Guerrero was scheduled to defend his belt against Martin Honorio in November 2007.

Guerrero left his wife's bedside just a couple of days before the fight, knocked Honorio out in the first round, and returned to his wife and their two children.

Casey Guerrero's leukemia eventually went into remission but is back. She underwent a bone marrow transplant recently and has been at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., for about 10 days, Guerrero's co-manager Bob Santos said.

"They won't really know if the bone marrow is going to take, so we're hoping that it does," Santos said. "Robert wanted to fight. He thought he could spend half the day with her and train the other half the day, but she started to take a turn for the worse. I told him point blank there is no way I would allow him to fight. Me and Shelly had to talk him out of it. This is a tough sport and if he's going to fight somebody like Katsidis you have to be 100 percent focused. With this situation, how could he be?"

Santos said this was different than when Guerrero fought Honorio just after Casey's diagnosis.

"She had just been diagnosed and there was a lot of hope and optimism," he said. "The doctors were like, 'We can try this and we can do that.' In this case, it's hit or miss. We just don't know if the [bone marrow transplant] is going to work. If this doesn't work there is nothing they can do for you. She's at a point where if this doesn't work, unless there is divine intervention, she's in big trouble."

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes Guerrero, agreed with the decision to call off the fight.

"I got the call and they said it's very serious," Schaefer said. "All of our prayers are with Robert and his wife and we hope that she can pull through. I feel so bad. They have two young kids. I hope that she will be able to make it. His wife is fighting for her life. That is way more important than any fight in a ring."

Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KOs), 26, vacated his featherweight belt in 2008 and moved up to junior lightweight last year. He easily outpointed South Africa's Malcolm Klassen in August to claim a world title.

Golden Boy hoped to put Katsidis-Guerrero on in the San Jose, Calif., area because Guerrero, who is from nearby Gilroy, Calif., is a popular draw.

Schaefer said a new opponent is being sought to face Katsidis (26-2, 21 KOs), although the card will be moved out of Northern California. Schaefer said the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit has shown interest in hosting the event.

The undercard bout pitting interim junior welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KOs) of Argentina against Victor Cayo (24-0, 16 KOs) of the Dominican Republic remains intact.

Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and junior middleweight titlist Sergio Martinez have agreed to terms for April 17 bout, the promoters for both fighters told ESPN.com on Tuesday.

The contracts are not signed, but both sides said that was a formality.

"We're waiting for Lou [DiBella, Martinez's promoter] to send back the contract, which he said there are no problems with," said Top Rank's Bob Arum, Pavlik's promoter. "Kelly is on board and we're planning a press conference in New York, but HBO wanted us to hold off until after the Olympics. But the fight is agreed to. We're good on our side and Lou tells me it's good to go on his side. We're putting off the press conference strictly because of the Olympics."

They'll meet at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., where Pavlik is a major draw -- his fans have regularly traveled there by the thousand from Youngstown, Ohio.

Martinez, a native of Argentina living in Spain, made his own fans at Boardwalk Hall in December, when he thrilled the crowd at the Hall's smaller Adrian Phillips Ballroom by duking it out with middleweight contender Paul Williams in a thrilling majority decision loss that took no luster away from Martinez.

"It's a great Atlantic City fight, especially with Williams-Martinez having just taken place there and Pavlik being the most proven attraction there in the post-[Arturo] Gatti era," DiBella said.

The bout will headline a major "World Championship Boxing" split-site doubleheader on HBO. Super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute of Montreal will defend his 168-pound belt against Edison Miranda of Colombia at the Bell Centre in Montreal before the action shifts to Atlantic City for Pavlik's 160-pound title defense against Martinez.

Should Pavlik and Bute both win, it could lead to a potential Bute-Pavlik fight. Arum said there have been preliminary discussions about the bout between Top Rank and InterBox, Bute's promoter, and it's a fight that HBO has major interest in.

But first things first. Pavlik is in a serious fight, and his team knows it.

"It's a terrific fight and I think Kelly is going to win, but we know this is a very tough fight," Arum said. "But I think that Kelly has the firepower to come through and win the fight." Pavlik, who is 6-foot-2, is the naturally bigger and stronger fighter compared to the 5-11 Martinez, 34, who is a southpaw and faster.

"Sergio Martinez is the best 154-pound fighter in the world, but he simply could not turn down an opportunity to take on the true middleweight champion of the world," DiBella said. "While size is not his advantage, speed is, and sometimes David slays Goliath. We had to bite the bullet a little bit, but it's a great opportunity even though it is above the weight where Sergio prefers to fight. But he didn't do so badly at middleweight against Williams did he? We all know that a lot of people thought Sergio won that fight. At some point, he'd like to move down and fight in his own weight class, but this is a big opportunity for him."

Pavlik (36-1, 32 KOs), 27, will be making his fourth defense since scoring a dramatic seventh-round knockout against Jermain Taylor at Boardwalk Hall to win the title in September 2007. Pavlik has also fought a pair of nontitle bouts, outpointing Taylor in a super middleweight rematch and losing a lopsided decision at 170 pounds to Bernard Hopkins.

Pavlik is coming off a fifth-round knockout of overmatched Miguel Espino on Dec. 19, which followed a 10-month layoff. During that time, Pavlik was twice scheduled to defend against Williams, but each time the fight was called off because a problem Pavlik had with his hand stemming from a staph infection.

The second time the fight was called off, Williams instead faced Martinez (44-2-2, 24 KOs), who has yet to defend his 154-pound crown, on short notice in one of the most action-packed bouts of 2009.

The only open issue in the deal, according to DiBella, has nothing to do with the agreement between the promoters or fighters.

"There are no substantive issues on the paperwork between me and Arum," DiBella said. "The only issue that exists is that Kelly has had some health issues and I want to know that if Sergio trains for the fight and Kelly is forced to pull out for some reason that Sergio would able to fight another opponent we agree on in Montreal on the Bute undercard.

"If something happens and Kelly's staph infection comes back or he has another problem with his hand, we want to be able to fight somebody else on that date. My guy can't have another long layoff. But there is no issue about anything between me and Bob. I just need to get this worked out with HBO, but I don't think it is going to be an issue."
