2012 Summer Olympics Thread: London July 27 - August 12

This Spain vs Honduras is crazy. :eek

Spain with so many chances and not being able to score. :{

Nice upset Honduras. Spain looked like they were going to flop towards the refs after the match

I'm no expert, but I had a feeling they would struggle. If my memory serves me right, they almost lost in the last olympics if it were not for that old guy finishing the last leg strong.

NBC frustrating the hell out of me.. What is it that I am watching.. qualifying? Group play? Heats? They have almost no OVERLAYS on their screens... Absolutely killing any joy if I have to out source basic info on the internet every chance I change the channel.

One swim meet, I had no damn clue how long the race was.

Am I missing something here? The past olympics never seemed this bad

Sounds like you're missing the beginning of the races, where all pertinent info is given.

Yeah, I wish they would put some more info on the screen. I like when they keep it minimal and simple but this is too much. I flip through all the Olympic coverage channels and sometimes don't know which event is going on. It would be good if they also put the names of the boxers on the screen.

Did anyone see that Cell phone/Olympic commercial with Carmelo being pretty much the only one whose wasn't running?

16 yo ariel hsing nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets, but loss to #2 world player in table tennis. lets see if she gets a mention tonight

That's my biggest gripe......not 1 men's basketball game(outside of the gold medal game) is on the national NBC channel. But they can show 6hrs worth of cycling or canoeing every other day :{ W.T.F

basketball just isn't as big of a sport as it once was in America.

there was that study done earlier in the year, where many americans wouldn't care if the NBA had continued its strike.

one basketball game takes up a huge chunk of airtime.

Its been proven that during the olympics, people would watch sports like cycling, volleyball... whereas they would not usually catch the volleyball world championships.

Was Ryan Lochte banned from wearing his groll on the podium?

700

Ryan Lochte turned heads at the Summer Games in London on Saturday by winning gold in the 400m individual medley, beating Michael Phelps, who finished fourth. But the gold medal isn't the only reason he's receiving plenty of attention -- it's the jewelry in his mouth, not around his neck, that's causing a stir.

Earlier on Saturday we noted that Lochte was sporting a custom-made diamond grill in his mouth on the medal stand. Though he was photographed with the grill in his mouth after the race, it looks like he was banned from wearing it on the actual medal stand.

ESPN's Wayne Drehs reported that "Lochte told me he tried to wear his grill on the podium only to have an Olympics official tell him if he did so he wouldn't get his gold."

That explains the photo on the left where Lochte's teeth are visible compared to the one on the right where you see nothing but diamonds.

Recent TV ratings say otherwise.

I guess i get it, but with basketball being a global sport, and the Olympics being a global competition, one would think NBC could've put in more effort to make at least SOME of the basketball games available to the average cable viewers
