2012 Toyota GT-86 / SCION FRS/ BRZ - FRS $24,930 MSRP

In a Z man through and through and will def be getting the next gen Z but as a BRZ owner I can't even say how awesome this car is

A low mileage well maintained one shouldnt need much more than a fresh set of rubbers. Although the day I get on that level n cop a porsche, aston, masi or sumthin of the like ill def set aside about 4-5 racks for emergency maintence.

Not true, Porsche is one of the most strict maintenance/service schedule, the older it is, the more expensive it becomes to maintain. PLus that Porsche int he vid has 70k miles and price in Europe tends to be cheaper when it comes to German cars.

Posted this here about a year ago and from the previous gen, price might have even gone up by now:

Those prices arent that crazy... i dont have a service chart for a benz equivalent but id imagine there within spitting distance of each other. Like I said... low miles and I wouldnt be overly concerned... alot more concerned than the z or frs outta warranty for sure but I mean it is a porsche.

Well the options being discussed are buying an FRS new or a Cayman used, so the FRS will have the 5year warranty. Even if you buys an FRS right now, the warranty is transferable so you'd still get at least 4 years of warranty today.

And Porsche are great cars, I love them, but they are not bulletproof. Those listed are only the first 4 years, after that, it still has strict (required) service intervals like a ****** flush/fluid replacement every 30k which could easily climb to $1000-$1500, new Spark plugs every 2 years, timing belt, water pump, etc...

Cayman already need a $550 service after two years in comparison to the FRS will likely only have 2-3 oils changes in two years that'll cost $100. Insurance cost on the Porsche is much higher too.

Plus you aren't really going to find a cheap Cayman with low mileage that is cheaper than a new FRS, it has a surprisingly well resale value. A 2007 Cayman (base and first gen) that is probably bone stock with about 80k miles is still going for $25k easy.

Im not arguing that the frs isnt the best bargain... jus that id take the porsche everytime and I know this iisnt the norm per say but actually finding use caymans for the low is fairly easy...

The brz with a lip n wheels is a nasty lookn machine. In a good way but if im gunna go with a micro coupe and have the option of a porsche.... im takin it haha hell put the boxter in this and it wouldnt change much. the frs is def one of the best cars out no denying that....

That cayman is 4k more than a brz limited, you can get a turbo/sc kit for that much

What?I hope ur talkin limited brz because thats the only way it sorta kinda can maybe consider comparing itself n the cockpit. The newer tech would offset overall build quality but im still takin the porsche on clout alone and also 300+ hp >> perfect manueverability. Reminds me of when the rx 8s first hit. The limiteds are 29-32ish... if ur sayin u could talk em down im sure I could talk that seller down as well...

It's hard to compare new and used cars. I presonally would feel weird about paying over 30k for a used car. a new cayman is over 50k,the fact that the brz can even be compared to it is a win

 at buying the used Evo X

I feel bad for who ever bought my Evo X. I thrashed the #%@! out of that thing whenever I got the chance. Got it up to 160+ on the highway. Boosted everywhere. Ran over the worst of potholes doing 70. Just not a good buy used.

Now a NEW Evo X, sure. But there's a reason I sold the car. It SUCKS as a daily driver, Mitsu dealerships are a joke as far as supporting their products (3 closed down in the 4 years I owned it), the build quality isn't as good as the FR-S/BRZ, and it's a sedan.

Performance wise, yeah no question. AWD, turbo, great traction control. But not as fun to drive, other than acceleration. Trust me.

No sooner had Subaru updated their STi website yesterday about the imminent release of a car wearing STi badges that the internet went berserk, with several major outlets claiming that an STi BRZ was imminent. The usual turbocharged rumours followed but I’m here with some facts from the source in order to clean the mess up…

1000

The fact is, the STi website was updated yesterday with a few vague photos and this happened to coincide with the 86 festival at Fuji Speedway where Subaru unveiled their latest BRZ package. What a lot of people don’t realize or understand is that a “tS” branded Subaru and an “STi” branded Subaru are very different creatures.

Firstly, the bad news. There is no turbo charger. The BRZ tS will sport the same 200hp flat four boxer from the standard edition. It will also carry the same exhaust system as the standard car. Don’t be entirely disappointed though…

Subaru have dubbed their new model the BRZ tS for a few reasons. There appears to be quite a bit of confusion among a great many people as to what the difference is between a “tS” and an “STi”. Well, think of a tS Subaru as the “Light Tune” version of Subaru models. The parts are still made by STi but that’s where the market placement ends. The tS moniker literally stands for “Tuned by STi” and in most instances, mods are restricted to bolt on accessories in the exterior and interior departments with a few in reserve for the chassis and drivetrain.

An STi on the other hand is more of a “works package” with a lot more engine and drivetrain modifications thrown into the mix along with the afformentioned parts for the tS.

The BRZ tS will come in two grades, the BRZ tS “GT-package” and the standard BRZ tS package. What’s the difference you might be asking? Not a great deal, if you’re looking for a power upgrade unfortunately. The tS “GT pack” will come with a number of exterior mods including a dry carbon GT wing that was pulled from the Impreza RA STi parts shelf along with black multi spoke alloy wheels, Recaro front seats, shift knob, steering wheel button, kidney grill inserts, upgraded fog lamps and surrounding garnish, front under spoiler and side steps, strengthened driveshaft, Bilstein suspension upgrade and almost pointlessly, 6 pot Brembo brakes. 200hp will not take a lot of stopping.

1000

The Standard BRZ tS makes do with a wingless arrangement, silver alloys and less trim additions, including the Recaro seats. Other than that, both have similar specs and both will come in 6 speed manual and automatic configurations. Subaru have announced that they will create 500 tS BRZ’s with the GT spec getting an allotment of 250 units.

1000

Both cars are available for pre-order from Subaru from the 18th of this month with production to start in October and delivery shortly afterwards.

Prices for the GT package in Manual will start at around ¥4,090,000 ( USD $41,500 / AUD $46,600 ) with the slushbox tacking on another ¥100,000 ( USD $1000 / AUD $1150 ). As with so many special models from Subaru, neither of these cars is designated for international release.

1000

This is sure to come as ( perhaps only slightly ) disappointing news for a lot of people, as many had anticipated a turbo release from Subaru but despite the erroneous claims on the internet by other outlets, along with claiming that there is no room in the engine bay for such a modification, Subaru is keeping very quiet about rumoured plans to include a full blown, official STi version to the lineup; something that anyone with enough forward thinking would realise is almost certain to happen in the future.

When that does happen is up for argument and debate but in the meantime, the aftermarket manufacturers have tuning enthusiasts covered for power upgrades.

One last point to consider is the timing for this release. Subaru plans to unveil a face-lifted model for the BRZ in October – at the same time these will officially go into production so what you are looking at is essentially a face-lift version of the 2014 release.

Bummer :smh:

Dat greed... here well trick out ur brz for 10k from the factory lmao

They had yall geeked. Lol

Im kinda confused.... Why would ya cop this

And not a slightly used EVO X MR/GSR for da same

Price?
some want a coupe some want a 4 door

Aye im a coupe dude all day, but if da purpose

Of coppin this whip is bargin basement cornering

Then da EVO X kills this at its own game for bout

Da same price lightly used.

evo x costs at least a few stacks more even used no? besides evos are rally cars that that engine is no joke esp when tuned. this FRS isn't touch the X even when tuned.

i think people grab this car for its simplicity in the driving exp. there aren't many fun motorsport coupes on the road today, compared to back in the day, i think you would agree with this.

its only 200hp but its RWD, generally affordable, quick, nimble, and 6 speed manual. and looks REALLY good :pimp: thats y this car is selling left and right.
