2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

Quite a few coaches will say when they see a kid commit to a school, all that tells them is that school is the one school they have to "out" (negative) recruit against... Sure 90% will sign with the school they give a verbal too but I have seen enough kids flip, to not get too high until the LOI is faxed in... Just me

Alabama's line coach told a Stanford prospect "If you wanna be an NFL player, come to Alabama, if you wanna be a doctor, go to Harvard or Stanford". LOL

How does Richt let Watson and Kitt go OOS to the same school no less?

They also got *4 ILB Korie Rogers and Herschels nephew *4 TE Milan Richard out of GA and there will be more I'm sure.

Clemson always picking up the pieces....

Kitt is a 'me-guy' and we're 9 deep at WR (no Srs, Kitt would def have to RS) signed 5 ILBs last class plus a safety that will likely move to ILB ala Ogletree (Rogers would have to RS). Rogers said Clemson has better academics than UGA..HA! They're close but he's a Business major and we're the best in that area so he didn't do his research... Watson the only one whom recruitment we couldve handled better but Watsons HC is extremely pro-Clemson so we were behind from jump.

Milan knew we were taking only 1 TE, him or Jeb and it was first come...Jeb committed first and not a week later Milan committed to Clemson. We just opened up a TE scholly with that JHC situation tho so who knows..long way til February jack. While you worried bout what Coach Richt doin, Free Matthew Thomas! Saban releasing _s everyday b..

Stanford is a great school, that negative recruiting would have just drove me straight to them.

David Martin and his staff seem to negative recruit a whole helluva lot as well... They seem to have to tell recruits that Hoke is looking at following his brother who is a position coach to the NFL and Darrell Funk (OL coach) is leaving for a new school every year.... Stanford is not above that type of game.... Nobody is

Right, I'm not arguing that Stanford doesn't play dirty in that respect. What I'm saying is that if another school were going to negatively recruit against them by saying that it's only good for producing intelligent, hard working people, then that's the school I'd want to be at to begin with :lol why not be like Andrew Luck and get a solid degree and do well?

because most of the dudes that have the option of going to Bama or Stanford don't want to grind behind a desk after graduation.  They want to play ball.  That's what would appeal to them.

Work in a lab somewhere and earn six figures or smang Katherine Webb and earn seven? No brainer.  And I'm a nerd.

Yes, because the vast majority of Bama's team goes on to the NFL, earns those seven figures, play a long time and become Hall of Famers.

right.  but when anyone sells you anything, they're gonna show you what the best (and possibly you can also) become, right?

i know unemployed stanford grads who weren't/aren't smashing anything.  are the coaches telling them that?

Of course, there are always two sides. And I'm sure when these coaches are recruiting they figure out what it is that the recruit wants and tells them what they want to hear.

I just can't imagine myself passing up a chance for a Stanford degree if my options were varied. But of course, I'm not a four/five star football recruit. It seems like it's one in a thousand who are able to, and want to, balance school and football together and succeed at both.

Surprised the aTm guys aren't all over this like post about renovations to Kyle Field.

aTm drops future series against USC ad Oregon, :{.

what years?  and of course they did.

and of course the aTm guys aren't.

Lol, figures USC guys talk about stuff like they have any clue what's going on.

The Texas A&M-Oregon series is still on. See update at bottom.

A couple of weeks ago, we confirmed that Texas A&M and USC never finalized their 2015-16 home-and-home football series.

A spokesman for the USC athletic department told us that there were “very preliminary discussions between the schools, but nothing ever came of it.” Later, Texas A&M told us that former Director of Athletics Bill Byrne started the discussions with USC but they had heard “nothing more about this series.”

Although Texas A&M officially announced the series with USC, Byrne had apparently “jumped the gun” according to the Trojans.

Included with that official announcement was a 2018-19 home-and-home series between Texas A&M and Oregon. Two weeks ago, an Oregon official confirmed that there was a signed contract and that the games were scheduled for Sept. 15, 2018 in Eugene and Sept. 14, 2019 in College Station.

However, current A&M athletic director Eric Hyman told the Houston Chronicle yesterday that those games are no longer part of their plans because “having switched from the Big 12 to the SEC, we’ve had to scrub our whole schedule – throw it almost out. Going forward, we’ve had conversations with people, but we really can’t be contractually (obligated) until the conference says you’ve got the green light.”

So it appears that Texas A&M has or will back out of that future series with Oregon. That move essentially “scrubs” the Aggies future schedules after 2014.

Hyman went on to say that the Aggies want “balance” in their future schedules with likely an FCS team and a “lower-level BCS game, and then you have a game from a national standpoint.”

Currently, Texas A&M has three games scheduled in 2014: vs. Lamar, at SMU, and vs. ULM. That schedule is ripe for the addition of a “national” game against a BCS program.

There are no games currently scheduled for the 2015 season. Louisiana Tech, originally schedule to visit in 2012, will play at Kyle Field in 2016. The only other future game scheduled is New Mexico in 2017.

With Oregon and USC no longer on Texas A&M’s future football schedules, some writers believe that this is evidence that the SEC will move to a nine-game football schedule.

That may be true, but there is also a lot of uncertainty in future scheduling due to the upcoming College Football Playoff. In addition, SEC commissioner Mike Slive said at the Spring meetings this week that he wants to set dates for conference games first and then have schools schedule non-conference games around that.

“That’s going to change, and that’s why these few years are sort of steps towards the point where we’re going to do the conference schedule and then fill in with the non-conference schedule” Slive said.

With so many changes in college football lately, future schedules will continue to be in flux.

Update (2:25 p.m. ET)

Alan Cannon, Texas A&M Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, told us in an email that the Oregon series is still on.

Due to the transition of the new athletic staff, A&M athletics director Eric Hyman “was unaware of the signed contract and he is sorry for any confusion.”

Dave Williford, Executive Assistant Athletic Director, Football Communications at Oregon also told us that TAMU’s AD “misspoke” and lumped the USC and Oregon games together. “They assured us UO-A&M games are still on from their point – we have always considered them on.”

With all of that being said, 2018-19 is still a long ways away. If the SEC moves to a nine-game schedule, or due to other factors, the series could still be mutually canceled.

I assumed it was finalized when it was announced. I guess that wasn't the first or last time Byrne significantly mishandled an announcement.

No clue... :lol

Finalized or not it was in the works, aTm now searching for balance. :lol. Go find that FCS team and lower level BCS team to play.

Hope this committee squashes this type of cupcake scheduling.
