It’s also worth mentioning that Okafor’s defense has been a lot better in the tournament.
No I got what you meant. But who in they right mind would pass on Russel and pick WCS just to sign Rondo. That makes 0 sense.I put it right there man.
My point is, instead of taking Russell/Mudiay and then searching for a true Center, maybe they reach for WCS, knowing they can pull Rondo in as well.
It all depends on how much Mitch likes/dislikes the prospects he works out. If WCS blows him away, and the guards are just eh, pretty good, maybe he goes that route.
I personally take Russell and am fine with it, but I understand if he somehow falls in love with a mobile 7 footer that defend everything. **** like that happens.
Kawhi, Butler, Jordan, Gasol, Middleton, Knight, Aldridge. None of those are obtainable.
So I ask who then would you like them to get in free agency that they can actually get that is better than Tobias?
A lot of it depends on the draft say they are able to get a wing in one of the later picks, there becomes no need for Tobias at 4x the cost.
Same with Rondo, if it's at a reasonable number, get Towns or Okafor and slot him into the PG. Resign Boss and we're looking good going into next season.
In this day and age of the NBA, it's crucial to find players who, relative to their salary, produce a ton more. Take Rudy Gobert. Or Hassan Whiteside. Heck, even look at Jeff Teague or Stephen Curry. All these players have cap friendly deals. That allows to team to spend elsewhere. Speaking of spending, re-signing Davis will reduce the amount the Lakers can spend in 2016.
At the moment, the Lakers will potentially have about only $15-20 million in committed salaries headed into 2016. Given that the cap is estimated to shoot up ~$90 million, having over $70 million in cap space is going to be huge. While that won't be enough for three 30% max players, it's not illogical to think that if these 3 max guys wanted to do a LeBron-Wade-Bosh like deal, they'd each be willing to take paycuts. They'd still be making over $20 million each.
While trading Davis probably won't be hard in 2016 (although, there is a worry that he's putting up good numbers in a contract year, similar to what Nick Young did....but I think Davis' play is more sustainable), him being in the picture just complicates things. If LA didn't have guys like Randle, Kelly, Black and their potential draft picks, I'd be all over re-signing Davis for up to $9 million/year. But they do, so that's why I'm not worried at all about losing Big Boss.
You can ignore SF when KD is a free agent next summer. This is year 2 of a 4 year reconstruction. We don't have to fill every hole this summer.
^Exactly. The top free agents in 2016 are lebron durant love horford. LBJ and kd play the same position so even hypothetically there's only room for one. Horford and towns/okafor/wcs same deal. Don't even get me started on love
Edit - that was aimed at your previous post E. If we're going after a restricted 2/3 I'd prefer middleton. Bucks are going to have to pay jabari and giannis eventually, maybe they let khris go with a pick for their troubles
Also what should be gathered from all this is that the lakers have a buttload of options and directions they can take this thing. This "no plan" talk is kind of silly
