So CP, you still believe in Jim Buss?
Still believe in his master plan? :lol

And this dude really left millions of dollars on the table and quit...
HE QUIT.

And you guys spent months of your life persuading me he's a winner.
I spent MONTHS OF MY LIFE WASTING TIME LISTENING AND ARGUING OVER A QUITTER.

Oh well.
Peace Out, Quitter :hat

Magic with zero sympathy...

or he just cant read

I have never heard Kerr say something insightful. More importantly, I don't see him as a leader of men.

Lionel Hollins, anyone?
There's a reason he wasn't picked up again. He's not that great.

Mike D'Antoni resigns as Lakers coach

Mike D'Antoni
Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni has resigned after two seasons with the team. (Eric Gay / Associated Press / April 16, 2014)
Mike Bresnahan This post has been updated. See the note below for details.
April 30, 2014, 7:04 p.m.

Embattled Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni has resigned after two seasons with the team, according to the team and his agent.

D’Antoni had one more guaranteed year at $4 million but was dismayed when the Lakers declined to pick up his option for the 2015-16 season at another $4 million.

The Lakers went 27-55 last season, setting the franchise record for most losses.

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol disliked D'Antoni's small-ball approach, leading to big-picture trouble for him.

D’Antoni and his agent, Warren LeGarie, pushed the Lakers to pick up his option year to add stability to his tenure. It didn’t happen.

“In order for Mike to have done his job, we felt that having the option year picked up would have changed the narrative,” LeGarie said Wednesday. “They knew that Mike would have been the coach and there would have been a different reaction. It would have been difficult for him to do his job without it.”

D’Antoni was hired five games into the 2012-13 season after coach Mike Brown was abruptly fired. The Lakers made the playoffs last season, but were swept in the first round by San Antonio as Bryant watched from the sideline because of a torn Achilles’ tendon.

Bryant played only six games this season but joined forces with Gasol as critics of D’Antoni’s system. Gasol openly criticized it, leading to some tense exchanges through the media between Gasol and D’Antoni.

Despite it all, D’Antoni was unsure about resigning until Wednesday. He was paid an undisclosed amount of the $4 million he was owed for next season.

“It was an impossible decision for Mike,” LeGarie said. “He loved the guys on the team, the young guys. He clearly felt he had impacted their development and they had a real good buy-in on this. But clearly there wasn’t enough there to get us past some of the issues.”

It was not immediately clear who the Lakers had one their short list as replacements for D'Antoni.

[UPDATED, 7:04 p.m. PDT, April 30: Lakers great Magic Johnson posted on Twitter that he was pleased about D'Antoni resigning: Happy days are here again! Mike D'Antoni resigns as the Lakers coach. I couldn't be happier!"

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak released a statement shortly after the Lakers announced the news:

“Given the circumstances, I don’t know that anybody could have done a better job than Mike did the past two seasons,” said Kupchak. “On behalf of the Lakers, we thank Mike for the work ethic, professionalism and positive attitude that he brought to the team every day. We wish him the best of luck.”]

Buss is the reason he quit. Wouldn't pick up his option. Basically signaled that it would be his last year here.

So for people who hate Jim Buss. There is a reason to love him.

I love him for this end result.
But i hate him for being such an idiot.

All this proves is that he had no clue what he was doing hiring Mike in the first place.
All this does is validate his mistake in letting his ego stop him from hiring Phil.

and most importantly, all this does is show that this dude HAS NO PLAN other than praying for that lottery to get us wiggins.

But yes, i love that he didnt give mike what he wanted...even though he shouldnt have been in that position to want anything.

The one thing i can agree with CP on is our organization being run by ******* idiots.

Owner/GM don't give you a contract, why coach the next year with a holding pattern roster?

I know I'm asking a lot from our fanbase to grasp that but I've wasted enough time over him.

Excited for Kerr or Scott or Rambis to become the new scapegoat. :smokin

Still blaming Jim for Jerry's choice :{

gotta blame the gm and not the owner, the gm is the basketball guy that says this and this and this will get us a championship

the owner says oh okay and signs the contracts

mitch has no idea what hes doing

What proof do you have that Jerry really made that choice?
The fact that Jim "said" so after jerry's passing? :lol

Yeah Jim clearly has no ego and wasnt the person who made the whole #STAYD12 campaign...that was Mitch.

"When I left [the interview], [Lakers owner/executive] Jimmy [Buss] was pretty happy about it and [General Manager] Mitch [Kupchak] was still saying, 'We're going to keep interviewing people,' and I think the ultimate [decision] kind of rested with Dr. Buss and he made the decision in the hospital the day after," said Jackson.

Ramona Shelburne

Later on, the elder Buss explained to his daughter that the final decision on the hire had been his, and it was not personal towards Jackson. He simply saw the NBA heading in a direction that seemed to fit D’Antoni’s uptempo style.

That was allllll Jeanie

So who are the possibilities? George Karl, Lionel Hollins, Van Gundys, who else is available?

Depending on how this week goes Vogel, Mark Jackson, Brooks, maybe Thibs are all available. And there's always the college guys they'll do their due diligence on: Coach K, Ollie, Cal (already done).

But they all pale in comparison to the quitter so only Phil or Pop is an upgrade.

It's been stated by many people. Even Jeanie, who everyone seems to love for some odd reason. And you can flip your question on yourself to be honest. What proof do you have that Jim made the choice, especially when plenty of media people and the two new owners themselves have stated it.

Who would you guys have wanted to coach the team? I really do not think Phil was truly interested and we needed a guy for the present and future. Took a gamble on D'antoni. It made sense to me, even though I wasn't happy with it. Nash pick and roll with Dwight deadly. Just didn't work out for a plethora of reasons. The team was also not built properly unfortunately, we had no shooters. Plenty of injuries. He just got really unlucky.

On top of all this, I truly believe Jerry Buss never wanted Phil anywhere near the front office of the LA Lakers. He knew what bringing Phil in as a coach would do. Jeanie and Phil would get rid of Jim and I believe he never wanted that to happen. Hiring D'antoni from his perspective makes sense to me.

Okay CP. Before you start going off on me.
Im with you when it comes to being worried about the coaches available out there.

I said a few days ago i know there are "currently" no upgrades available, so you cant say this is just because hes gone.

But now that hes quit, what else can we do other than to look for the best prospects available?

No point in arguing over mike anymore. Hes gone.

Lets get back on the same team and discuss whats our best options...yes? 8o
