2014 NBA Draft Thread

Since Stauskas is the topic of conversation:

I can't wait to see the full video of this.

Y'all are sleeping on Stauskas. This dude is much more than a spot up shooter. He's gonna be a solid NBA player

I think Stauskas could be a solid player but guys are saying he will be a star

That means he'll be at least a top 30 player

I'm very pleased with the draft picks Ainge got but Boston needs a 6'11-7'1 banger, who can rebound and either put the ball in the hoop or defend the rim. Marcus and James helped our perimeter scoring but defensively Boston still isn't up to par. If we coulda' got Marcus and a 6'11+ guy, Boston woulda' stole the whole draft.

this..
if he wants to STAY in the NBA he better perfect running off screens and being a Kyle Korver type player, because he is not a off the dribble one on one scorer, pick and roll orchestrator or a pass first play maker. So chill with the hype. Hes a 6 foot 6 shooter. thats it. U think hes gonna be handling the ball in sacremento with Isiah thomas(if he resigns), Rudy gay, etc? No sir He will be knocking down open shots. Lets see if hes even better then Tim Hardaway Jr. He need to watch his tape lol

One thing is for sure, the Kings must be REALLY high on Stauskas if they were willing to select him 8th, only one year removed from picking a guy that plays the exact same position in McLemore. Two things are possible:

1. McLemore really blows and they're giving up on him already.

2. They believe Stauskas is the real deal.

They passed up Vonleh, who would have been a perfect compliment to Cousins with his ability to stretch the floor and his defensive potential. Or Elfrid Payton, a defensive minded PG who can create for others.

people love creating straw man arguments.

"Y'all said he's going to be a STAR"

No one said that. :lol

He's a good pick at 8, low risk player that fits a need.

FYI here the top 5 median production at pick 8, basically the average player that you can expect.

14.9 Larry Hughes
14.5 Todd Day
13.8 Channing Frye
13.5 Brandon Knight
12.4 Adonal Foyle

Can he be better than these guys? Yeah I think there is a pretty solid chance.

My dude... if you watched him play at all last year you would know that his offensive game is much more than catch & shoot. His game is smooth. Got a silky step back J, pull up off the dribble, etc. No one is expecting Stauskas to be a "pass first" guy. Why would he be? His strength is scoring the basketball. And even then, he is a super underrated passer. He is a good passer off the pick and roll and his penetration and driving ability led to kick outs to open teammates. Y'all are silly for sleeping on this kid. His IQ and feel for the game is top notch, he will have no problems staying in the NBA

-Celtics fan.

I hear it mentioned a lot in here that because a team drafts a person (for example) a 6'6 SG and they already have a 6'6 SG that they might be down on the 6'6 SG that they had before etc. The one thing all NBA teams have is a bench. Any SG qualifies for a 6th man automatically or a role player. Lol, y'all act like all these cats that got drafted are going to get 1. Signed and 2. Get minutes

Most won't make the team much less be starters.

I would seriously consider going after Rondo if I were the Kings. I think Boston bites on Ben Mac + next years 1st and fillers

Even though Vonleh was on the table the Kings really suck at drafting bigs with high picks. They probably didnt want to repeat that.

-Thomas Robinson
-Spencer Hawes (whose actually pretty solid now)
-Jason Thompson
-Bismack (traded)

I would agree with you... but the fact that they had glaring needs at other positions such as PF and PG, and PASSED on guys like Vonleh and Payton.

He going to surprise all the Sac fans that are lukewarm on him, kid is a star, rare shooting talent and his handle is severely underrated.

He improved so much in 2 years at Michigan.

Was definitely called a star

Thank you!

I never said the guy would be a bust

I just said he looked like Ezra Koenig and that him being a star is kinda a reach

My only gripe with the Nik pick is that they could have gotten the 16th and 19th and went with Ennis and Gary.

That would have seriously killed 2 birds with 1 stone.

I disagree on Vonleh being a better pick than Stauskas for Sac., Payton either.

With Demarcus (best center in the league) down low, and the white Ray Allen shooting the ball, that's a extremely hard cover. Them dudes gonna be playing kick and catch all game. Stauskas will get good minutes when that jumper goes NBA Jam on fire during summer league

Na, honestly I wasn't that big on him till watching him this year. Thought he wouldn't flourish without Burke, but he proved me wrong more than I imagined.

His handle developed so well, was still hitting at the same rate but off the dribble as the focus of the defense. Y'all remember GRIII? He was supposed to be lottery WAY over Stauskas.

Honestly idk what to say, if you've seen him play you just have to believe, his whole game on offense translates. Not saying he won't get roasted on D cause he will.
