2014 NBA Draft Thread

you still at it? BE HAPPY. Damn :lol

I am bro. I was stunned last year... this year it's like I don't even know to take it in.

Wiggins? Trade for Love? Bron coming back? mind is going wild :lol

You're my homie too Anti :hat :hat

from the Cavs thread:

2.8% chance in 2011, 15.6% chance in 2013, and 1.7% chance this year equals 0.007% chance of this all happening or less than 1 in 10,000. Insane.
Lebron left Cleveland changed his number to 6, Kyrie wears number 2 x 3 number one picks= 6, Dan Gilbert is 52 5+2=7 -1 pick=6. Illuminati
:rollin

Regardless of whether this event is rigged or not rigged it's now official - it needs to be blown up either way. Redone. The entire process.

Funny thing is people complain about tanking and then complain about the lottery being random.

Personally I think the process is fine, this was just worst possible outcome.

Definitely haven't heard any ideas that were actual improvements.

If they can't think of any alternatives, they definitely could put a stipulation that a team cannot win the #1 pick back to back years or even have a top 3 pick back to back years. I think that's fair. If they want to take it even a step further, they could use these stipulations over the span of 3 years

I still lol when people think Bron going back to the Cavs.

He doesn't like Gilbert.

He would rather retire then join Cavs.

All that hate he got from them.

He hasn't even spoke to Gilbert since....

Bye to Kyrie though.

He outta there.

He'll end up in LAL or SAC

Has the NBA even thought about doing another process or is this just another worthless discussion?
Nah.  Grantland and all them types have been talking about it for years, but all their ideas are frankly stupid.

It's been Bill Simmons' pet bugaboo since the Celtics got the #6 pick in the Greg Oden draft after tanking the season.

But like I said, these are the same folks always complaining about tanking.

Order of record>>>>>>> Just simplify the whole thing. Worst team gets the first pick.

If there's enough backlash they'll do something but I doubt they've given any serious thought about changing the lottery. A few tweaks would make it fair but nobody wants to see a team win back to back #1 picks.

I've never heard of people complain about the NFL process.

I don't want to see them do it like the NFL because there is way more parity in the NFL and teams that suck one year could be in the Super Bowl the next. The NBA could have teams with several years of sucking even after compiling multiple lottery picks. They shouldn't be rewarded for that.

Again, they could just put certain stipulations that a team cannot win the lottery consecutive years or twice in a 3-5 year span

I like the wheel idea, but instead of a one pick over 30 year period I would make it a 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 16-20. 21-25, 26-30 lottery wheel. That way you avoid the dreaded idea of a prospect entering or not entering the draft because Team X holds the #1 pick one year but Team Y holds it the next year. If that makes sense.

The Colts didn't tank, they just weren't a good team after Peyton went down. Curtis Painter started for them :lol

I really hate the wheel idea.

To me it's just a different idea for the sake of being different.  It's not a better idea and while it doesn't reward tanking, it introduces a bunch of new problems that people will soon be complaining about.  For one, you're brutally screwed if your wheel pick is in a bad draft year.

There are plenty of tweeks that can be done now to freshen this up, let alone improvements. For starters show the ping pong balls being picked (as we have gone over countless times). Second add stipulations where it's not possible teams can win three out of four years.

Maybe I'm just dreaming, and maybe some people like the "randomness" of it all and let the chips fall where they may. I get that. The NBA is also serious business and random suddenly becomes a problem. What if Cleveland wins it again next year and has four out of five? We should just stand pat, "it is what it is?" Personally I'm not feelin that.

You have a system where other rotten franchises like the Kings have not had the #1 pick in 25 years and the Timberwolves in 16 lottery appearances have not moved up from their original position one single time.

That's life....but it also needs to change with the times.

The transparency of the actual process would alleviate a lot of the conspiracy talk. The 15 minutes they waste before hand could be used to do the process live. They are only actually determining the top 3 picks anyway. Why open yourself up to all these scenarios and questions.
