Packers coach Mike McCarthy may need to find a whistle to twirl, or learn card tricks.
Because even though he joked that he was “bored stiff” in his first game not calling offensive plays, the result was good enough in their preseason opener that he was encouraged by the progress of the new process.
“It looked like I didn’t know what to do with my hands?” McCarthy said, via Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com. “That’s funny. I’ll work on it. I’ll go look at the tape.”

The Bears defense was a wreck last season and the team hired Vic Fangio as their new defensive coordinator in hopes of improving their results this season, but the first outing of the preseason looked like more of the same.
Ryan Tannehill completed 6-of-7 passes while driving the Dolphins 85 yards on 14 plays to open the day before ending his night with a short touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry. The defense looked different with Fangio using a variety of looks that haven’t been seen in Chicago in the recent past, but the execution didn’t look much better for a unit that linebacker Jared Allen thought was looking pretty good in recent practices.
“It’s a good little slice of humility,” Allen said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “And lets you know where you’re at, and things you can work on.”
Coach John Fox agreed that the team was not a “well-oiled machine” on Thursday, but didn’t go too far beyond that in criticism of the team’s first preseason outing. Given recent history, it will be harder to shrug off similar performances in the next couple of games.
O I'm sorry
..
The drop off from your starting RB to your mid second-round pick who is 5-foot-9 is slight?
The running game was going to be bottom-third in the league when healthy, can't imagine what it could develop into if these training-camp injuries become a season-long/lingering issue. **** is Kevin Jones doin, beg him out of retirement like the Bills did with Orton.
Since this is the 2015 trash talk thread for this specific year: for sure
I watched a lot of Big Ten football the past few years. Tevin Coleman's a better rusher IMO, wasn't ever all that impressed by Abdullah other than those times he had those huge outlier performances.
Outside of the 45-yard run, Abdullah toted a 3.6 yard per carry average last night.
Yeah, six carries for 22 yards is 3.6 yards per carry.

His big run, singular, and SneakerPro of course we're going to see a decline. But I see 3.6.
That's not good, it means aside from the one play where everybody broke down and he got loose, he wasn't successful. And who even cares, it's only one game in the preseason but that's what I have to evaluate right now. Fluid opinions as the games roll in, should be that way for everybody.
checking in. What's stopping a 13-3 Packers season?
Bears general manager Ryan Pace announced on Saturday that White will undergo surgery on his shin. He'll miss at least the first six games of the season, and Pace said it's possible White might miss the entire year. White suffered a stress fracture to his shin in OTAs. Pace said he had a setback last week. If White misses exactly six regular-season games, he would return after the Bears' Week 7 bye for a game against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 1.
