It's nothing new for M's fans to be honest. We hear about it every year and while it can be a negative, i think what encourages me most was their road record last season. +10 games over .500. Fatigue could have been a factor down the stretch particularly the last 10 games last year, but I don't think its enough to warrant concern going into next year.

BTW, can anyone let me know of some websites with some 'advance' statistics, player and team trends, and other useful data that I could read and track?

Not saying that's the entire reason, but it played a factor. That and they wouldn't include a no-trade clause. Clearly he wanted to stay in Oakland.
