O's used to get front page press in the Sports section of the WaPo before the Nats came to town. Shoot, go to any game in the city (Caps, Wizards, Hoyas, even the Skins - tho they are in MD) and you'll hear folks yell "O" during the Star Spangled Banner. DC WAS an O's town. Just a lot of people fed up w/ Angelos and the state of the team which led them to jump ship over to the Nats when they came to DC from Motnreal/Puerto RIco.
You are right in one regard...DC is a transient city. Before the Nats got good, Nats park would be filled w/ Phillies fans. Like a 70/30 ratio - no joke. There are/was (they quiet now

) an influx of Sox fans in DC as well.
i had no idea the Orioles were popular like that. i didnt pay attention to DC when i was younger b/c id spend all of my summers in Chicago. during the school year when i was able to drive, my friends and I would go out to Baltimore spots. i wasn't in DC at all until college.

I honestly don't blame fans for jumping ship though because now people from the Beltway region have a team to call their own.

12 homers in the last 2 games for the Nats. Word to Adam LaRoche for having a bounce back year

Nice ceremony for Cal at the Yard. Brady Andersen sighting 8o and Billy Ripken as well.

Quick 4-0 lead and the sell out crowd is bringing the energy.

I'll try to find the article tomorrow (think it was on ESPN), but there is some discussion about Adrian Beltre's HOF chances. He's still got a few really good years left in him, and after looking at his career #'s, I think he's on that path. Any thoughts?

How many truly elite seasons has Beltre had? Like best 3b in the game type? IMO not that many, and I always favor peak performance over longevity.

that 2004 season was very much appreciated by Dodger fans (.334/48/121). I remember we were waiting and waiting for years for him to break out into the guy he could be...too bad it was in his walk year and he took the money to that deadzone Safeco :lol :{. he was/is a perennial gold glove candidate, and 3B hasnt seen too many superstars aside from the likes of a-rod and chipper. 2 more seasons like this and it seems like a safe bet.

my question is...do the really down years in Seattle hamper his career enough? (although just looking now, he still hit 25+ homers there 3 years in a row)

I got goosebumps seeing and hearing the crowd at OPACY last night. 1997 is a LONG time. Hopefully the Birds can keep it up. Mark Reynolds is on an absolute tear. I don't know how things are going to shake out in the AL East or for the WC, but it's been a hell of a ride so far.

Breaking out the Cal and Eddie Murray jerseys this weekend. :hat

I know that's right. Hearing Cal speak yesterday was dope and he still took the time to make the day about THIS Orioles team on his day. Dude is truly one of the last class act atheletes.

Local kid from MD, played with the same hometown team, never complained about a contract/money/losing/made trade demands, no scandals/off the field issues. He simply brought it everyday and his work ethic was a true staple for Baltimore.

If you have a child that is an athelete that should be a role model for him.

Like JJs07 said, who knows how the season will end for the O's, but it has been a hell of a ride and it's just good to have competitve baseball back at Camden Yards in September. Been a long long time.

Cal Ripken will always be the man. I love seeing that atmosphere at Camden Yards, it hasn't been like that in FOREVER.

Yeah man, usually the seats are empty are the ones that do show up are Yankees/Red Sox fans coming for a cheap ticket. Hopefully this is the begining of a new era. Seeing that sea of orange get pumped for a 2 out strikeout with men on or a big home run was on point.

Seeing Adam Jones launch that HR after the Yanks came back was live. :smokin

I can see that I guess. This year and the previous two he's been at least near the top two and three. But I think he has a few more years at the top left in him.

Let's go O's!!!.... the city live and buzzing rite now with the Yankees in town and ravens on Monday night...first time the O's been relevant same time as the ravens :hat

Yeah man the last time the O's were relevant was when Tony Tarasco was playing Right Field. Hope they hand the Yanks another loss today and the Rangers beat up on Tampa.

As bad as I want to be wrong, I have a strong feeling that Baltimore will go back to being irrelevant next season. I'm praying they win the WS this year.

I really want to see BAL, WASH, and PITT in the playoffs this year.

The Giants did a very gracious thing by wishing Brandon McCarthy a quick recovery on their big screen in the middle of their game. As an A's fan, I appreciated it very much.
