2016 MLB thread. THE CUBS HAVE BROKEN THE CURSE! Chicago Cubs are your 2016 World Series champions

Obviously that is a far stretch at this point, but the potential is there. Anyone who has watched the Orioles this season can recognize they have the makings/chemistry to make a deep postseason run a la St. Louis.

They play great team baseball. Manufacture runs, play solid defense, are great in close games and don't blow leads late in ball games.

We'll keep in touch in October and see where this prediction leads. This 8o could turn into this :smokin.

An Orange and Black WS would be :hat

Nationals vs Orioles World Series

book it.

would love to see that.

almost as good as the thought of a Cubs vs. anybody but my current close proximity to DC/Bmore makes

thought.

Thanks Ichiro. Not only for being one of the most overrated players ever but for hacking at every ball outside of the zone and taking every strike :lol you can't make this **** up.

Bro I don't care what they say or think.. When they get in the playoffs, if Strasburg isn't starting Game 1, they're a bunch of ****** idiots...

They should've been skipping starts for two months now and thrown a DL trip in there somewhere along the way.

Hard to believe Humber threw a perfect game earlier this year. 8 runs in 1/3 of an inning, 9/10 batters reached and the out was a sac fly RBI :x

Would LOVE to see this happen. Big egg on the face for all those "ex" O's fans who jumped ship when the Nats came to town. SMH.
.....

Yeah man, ever since the Nats came to town back in 2005 or so...people seem to have forgotten which team was the sole provider for this area for years.

I support what the Nationals are doing and any additional/new Sports teams the DMV area gets will be supported (never could really rock with the Ravens though), but if the O's and Nats meet in the World Series....it's Baltimore all day.

Cal getting his tribute on Thursday and the stumbling Yanks come to town, hot ticket indeed.

The O's have been pounding Toronto and I hope it continues tomorrow.

Reynolds has been hitting lights out as of late. Markakis, Hardy and Davis are seeing the ball real well too. I'm waiting for Adam Jones to start lighting it up too.

I wonder where those Peter Angelos selling the team rumors are at now. That bum doesn't deserve to be a part of this good run.

Players No Longer Trust Red Sox Ownership

The Red Sox once had tremendous chemistry and featured great relationships between the players, coaching staff, management and ownership.

After a rough calender year, Jeff Passan writes that the entire system is broken.

"Red Sox players do not trust owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Larry Lucchino," Passan writes. "They see the owners' box as a den of lies, leaks and resentment, the place where Lucchino hatched the idea to hire Bobby Valentine as manager, which has gone about as pleasantly as an enema."

Sole provider of what...? And no one in the DMV was checking for the Nats until almost the All Star break of this season, it's not like the fans just jumped ship on the O's to cheer for a better team because the Nats have been much worse than the Orioles over the years. However it is great to see both of the teams in this area thriving. I can't even imagine how hyped a Nats/O's World Series would be.

I'll have to differ on that. Here in VA and DC especially the Nats were adopted as the darling and the Orioles were treated like a step-child.

The proof is in the attendance and media coverage even.

The Orioles were the sole provider of major league baseball in this area for quite some time. After experiencing a drought for 8 years or so of futility, the Nats came here in 2005 and a lot of folks jumped ship immediately in support of the "New Thing."

I have no qualms with the Nats. I like the Nats and am glad there is not one, but two local baseball teams excelling during September.

Didnt the Reds have more wins in the 2nd Half at Minute Maid than the astros in the 2nd at home? :lol

Yes they do & so does Pittsburgh but to be fair they only have won 8 or 9 games total in that time. Nothing too mind boggling about that.

They are easily the worst team I have ever seen in my years of watching baseball. I cant even remember a team that comes close.

Padres!!!!! :hat

Hold up, it's possible, no matter how unlikely, but POSSIBLE that the Yanks, Red Sox, Tigers, AND Angels could miss the playoffs? Is that ******g true? :eek

I heard it in passing this morning and thought, wait, huh?

Oh to see those ratings. :lol :lol :lol

Yeah man. The Angels have spent boatloads of money with nothing to show for it these last few years.

The Yankees dominance over an exteneded period of time goes unnoticed at times, but they don't have a lot of postseason success to back that up. 15 division titles in 16 years are something like that. That is insane! Baltimore didn't even have a playoff appearance in the last 15 years.

Touching back on this innings-limit for Strasburg...
Why didn't the Nats stretch out his innings towards the middle of the season? They've been rolling for a while and with the playoffs in CLEAR sight. I feel as though something could have been done (giving Detwiler/Lannan a start or two earlier on) so that Strasburg could have pitched a maximum 20 IP in the playoffs.
I'm going to

if they somehow end up in a game 7 with a tired arm on the bump. It's unfathomable to me NOT to have your best player available when you would need him the most. Nothing is a given in sports, and who's to say that they don't go through a playoff drought after this year?
right?..rest the dude, they knew they were in.

him and gio back to back could do wonders in NL playoffs.

Overall, they have a lot of postseason success over those 16 years but not as much the last 8 years compared to the first 8 :lol

Huge series this weekend, I may have to ride down and catch a couple games.

DC is a very transient city so before the Nats, most people just supported their home town teams. Many still do. I can't tell you how many Yank/Nat hybrid fans I know.

I didn't know many O's fans from the within the Beltway before the Nats came to town and Baltimore has always been considered inferior by DC people.

O's used to get front page press in the Sports section of the WaPo before the Nats came to town. Shoot, go to any game in the city (Caps, Wizards, Hoyas, even the Skins - tho they are in MD) and you'll hear folks yell "O" during the Star Spangled Banner. DC WAS an O's town. Just a lot of people fed up w/ Angelos and the state of the team which led them to jump ship over to the Nats when they came to DC from Motnreal/Puerto RIco.

You are right in one regard...DC is a transient city. Before the Nats got good, Nats park would be filled w/ Phillies fans. Like a 70/30 ratio - no joke. There are/was (they quiet now :lol ) an influx of Sox fans in DC as well.
