2018/19 Philadelphia 76ers Thread: The Process Continues

We BADLY need a decent backup center so that Embiid can actually rest.

Sixers need better bench depth period but a backup 5 is the biggest need IMO.

Need a huge upgrade at backup center, starting PF and backup SF. If we at least had Justin Anderson still it would be much better. We have no athletic wing defenders off the bench at all right now.

Definitely agreed on PF. Bolden still ain't ready and Chandler/Moose def ain't the answer.

Man if the Fultz situation wasn't what it was, then I would've loved seeing Ben slide to the 4 more often for a while

TJ-Shamet-Furkan-Muscala-Amir is BY FAR the least athletic bench in the league right now. Might even be the worst bench in the league right now. TJ gets by on pure effort, Muscala is hit or miss, Furkan will look decent once every 5 games and Amir is unplayable.

Like I understand that they’re great guys and Brett doesn’t wanna mess up the “family dynamic” but enough is enough. It’s time to make some moves, Elton. This is the kind of game that shows you that.

I just came back from the game and the way it turned out was exactly what I expected (minus Embiid having his worst game of the season)

  • Their second unit torched ours and that was no surprise.
  • Moose is a poor mans version of Ilyasova and cannot boxout for his life
  • Wilson Chandler looked like the oldest person on the court.
  • The Raptors should have won by so much more but they missed 9 wide open 3s from set plays. We don't even get the luxury of taking wide open 3s because our coaching staff is inferior to theirs by multiple degrees.
  • Agree on the backup center and depth at the PF.
  • Ben HAS to play PF at a set half court. ALL he does is bring up the ball, pass it to the next man them gets out the way. Either brown should run plays or give someone else PG duties.
The good:
  • Ben played much better this game than the last. He especially played Kawhi better and was more physical against him (unlike last time)
  • Butler really helps us. It would have been a blowout without him
  • I love that the team has made a conscious effort to never jump for a pump fake. Makes our defence more patient and we were able to get stops.
  • Ben is unstoppable in transition.
In terms of depth, when will Zaihir come back? And why isn't Bolden ready? What does that even mean?

Depth and coaching are the two biggest concern.

Who else is annoyed that it seems like every time we’ve played a tough opponent this year it’s been on the road? And more than half of those have been national TV games. Like you give the Raptors this home game against us on ESPN and follow them all day on national TV when nobody gives a **** about anybody on the team besides the one guy who doesn’t talk...but then we play them two weeks later at home in one of the best home environments in the league and that **** is on NBATV where more than half of the people who watched tonight don’t even have. Oh, and then the game right after that is ANOTHER nationally televised road game on Christmas for everybody to watch us play at Boston. Oh AND THEN guess what? They have us travel to ******* Utah for a 10:30PM game against the Jazz two days later on TNT.

Amazing scheduling they did for the Sixers.

Zhaire probably not playing this season

Bolden kinda broke his leg so he’s out for another week or 2

This team needs a healthy Fultz and it solves some of the problems. Biggest problem is the ****** coaching

The only “healthy” Fultz we need is college Fultz...and that Fultz isn’t coming back for AT LEAST this season, if ever. Time to move on from him and think about him strictly as someone who anything we get out of him on the court or through a trade is extra at this point.

If our ****** coaching staff knows how to use players, “healthy” (albeit non shooting) Fultz helps this team. You let him the half court offense and put Ben down low instead of Ben running the offense and Fultz in the corner.

And when Ben was off ball next to Fultz, the offense was clicking. I get you hate the kid but don’t be oblivious to the fact that he helps this team more than he hurts it

Dude the offense runs much smoother without Fultz on the court, as evidenced by the record we’ve had since Fultz stopped playing. Even with as athletic as the kid is he ******* blows finishing through any type of contact in traffic at the rim. So not only can he not shoot and 90% of the time brings the ball up the court with the ergency of a snail but he also usually has trouble finishing at the rim unless there’s nobody around. I’m definitely not saying TJ is the answer but we need to find a different answer than Fultz for our backup PG spot. Or even starting PG spot (D-Lo) then move Ben to the 4.

When has the offense ever been smooth? Our half court offense has no movement or motion. The same **** Embiid postup, Simmons drive into a packed lane and throws up a prayer etc

Fultz finishing ability is a work in progress. The fact that he can get to the rim at will especially after a PnR opens the offense. Either you have to rotate or give him an open dunk or layup. This has happened each time Fultz was allowed to run a PnR. Pay attention to what the team is doing rather than the outcome

Our slowed down halfcourt offense has never been truly smooth with or without Fultz. You can be a non-shooter as long as you’re actually decisive...passive Ben and the Fultz we’ve gotten 90% of the time are not decisive enough for us to win against the Raptors or Celtics. But the point is regardless of if Fultz is here or not moves need to be made.

They are who we thought they were. Much better outing than last time though, game was competitive all the way until the last few minutes of the 4th.

Not concerned, we obviously have some things to work on but I love games like these because it let's you see how this improved team stacks up against other elite teams.

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. What makes Ben great will also be his downfall. He tries to do too much. Sometimes, simple passes are all that's needed.

Don't bother. He's blamed everybody (BB, Sixers org, Sixers medical staff) but Fultz himself.

I love the kid but I have no problem being critical. Imagine a Fultz vs Lowry matchup last night. Lowry would have *****ed him the entire game. Fultz body language tells me dude is just flat out scared to be there.

Long term, TJ is not the answer. I get he's hurt but TJ has made way more use out of his minutes that Fultz has.

1. BB sucks as a coach
2. Our medical staff is ******
3. This is the same organization who made Embiid play on a bum knee that led to a meniscus injury
4.Is it Fultz fault some weird injury happened to him that ****** up his shot? Nah, I know he hasnt been good but my expectations this season for him was never that high in the first play. He needs a better support system around him, his agent sucks.

I'm not sold on this team contending this season, the flash in a pan season last year gave them way too high expectations leading to wanting Fultz to be guy now rather than figuring out the other stuff. Who's fault is that? The guy who claimed the team was "Star Hunting" in the offseason.

The team is flawed and Fultz is nowhere near the biggest one yet the narrative is that he is and that's my issue. Fix the root issue first

That's not the debate tho. No one is saying Fultz is the issue :lol

You're the one saying that the team is better with him on the court which is simply not true. He's wasted space for the most part when compared to what TJ/Landry/etc bring to the table.

He's wasted space as the coach sticks him in the corner doesn't run plays lol

TJ dribbling in circles is just as worse to me lol Landry does more as they want him to be JJ jr. He gets the same action/runs JJ gets

I was Fultz to succeed as much as anyone. He needs to figure his **** out but to say he brings nothing is asinine. Amir bring nothing lol

My main issue is still the coaching. BB aint it

I notice that too, casually brings it up, dribbles slowly between the legs as if he's posing for a photoshoot, it looks like he's looking for a play to happen but he ends up dribbling a few times, then passes it off. like wth, you just wasted a good 7 seconds and have the defense all set.

Fultz someitmes look great and sometimes looks like he's never played organized basketball. The thing is, he's the type of guy who needs his shot to play well. The verdict is still out on him until we see him healthy.

Speaking of Laundry, do you think coach is currently limiting his abilities? I did not watch him closely in college, but wasn't he a PG? Can't he make plays for other players? He seems to be more than just a catch and shoot guy (which is what he is now).
