2019-20 New York Jets season thread. 1-4 (10/21 vs NE MNF)

The amount of WR's we should have picked these past few years, CordPat, Kelv. Benj, Jeffery, Nuk Hopkins, Josh Gordon, Keenan Allen, Nuk, Brandin Cooks. All of those guys would have helped Geno so much :{

I'd rather go O-Line in the first round or Amari Cooper depending on where our pick ends up.

The Jets have only one win over the first five games in 2014 and have sputtered on offense, including being shut out by the Chargers on Sunday, 31-0. Regardless if the quarterback is Geno Smith, Mike Vick or someone else moving forward, the New York offense needs more playmakers that strike some semblance of fear in defenders. Amari Cooper isn't on the same level as former Alabama wideout Julio Jones, but he doesn't have many holes and projects as an instant (and reliable) contributor in a NFL offense. With Jeremy Kerley set to hit free agency, Decker, Cooper and Jace Amaro would give New York a solid1-2-3 punch that will rival other dynamic receiving trios in the league.

5. New York Jets – WR Amari Cooper, Alabama
New York spent top dollar on Eric Decker, but due to injuries it's Jeremy Kerley who leads the team in receiving so far. Kerley is set to hit free agency after this season, but regardless if he's back for New York, the Jets need to add more weapons on offense for whoever is at quarterback.

Back to the main point, it don't matter which of the qb's available the jets draft, if they don't learn from last mistakes, history is likely to repeat itself.
It already has

I know you guys badly need offensive weapons to go with Deck and Amaro, but don't fall into the trap of believing Amari Cooper is worth a top-5 selection. He's the top WR on the board and having a monster year under Kiffin at Bama, but top-5 is a steep price to pay, and I said the same for Sammy.

It still baffles me how Idzik had cap room to field a decent team and he didn't do ****..

Not going after Revis I understand, even though I wanted him back. However, to not even try and sign serviceable DB's was a joke, that Patterson guy didn't even last through the pre-season. TBH I'm just ready to blow it up.

Matching styles or not, from a pure player personnel standpoint, missing on Verner at 4/$26.5M is unacceptable with so many holes in the secondary.

Demario Davis Critical of Jets Preparation

In the wake of an embarrassing 31-0 defeat at the hands of the San Diego Chargers, third year linebacker and defensive leader Demario Davis had some harsh words for some of his teammates. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Davis was quoted after the game as saying “Right now, we’re not practicing like a championship football team.” and continued “I don’t see a lot of guys putting a lot of effort into film study.” There isn’t a more damning statement in professional sports than to have a player accuse teammates of not putting in the necessary work. Davis was drafted to be a leader on the field and in the locker room and that’s exactly what he’s doing. Clearly Davis wants to see a greater level of commitment from his teammates moving forward, and sadly this isn’t the first time he’s had to speak up on the issue. During training camp, Davis talked about some players on the roster only doing what was mandatory, and not willing to put in any extra work before or after practice to get better. Rex Ryan has gone on record saying that Davis is a passionate and vocal leader, but this time his words could come back to haunt the head coach, as ownership and fans will speculate as to why Ryan isn’t demanding more out of his players.

Sit back and watch the dumpster fire burn. At least he put his name on it.

Jeremy Kerley on Jets: 'Energy's gone a little bit'

Updated October 8, 2014 10:45 PM
By KIMBERLEY A. MARTIN [email protected]

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Although Rex Ryan remains adamant that his Jets will resurrect their season, his players are finding it more and more difficult to shake the frustration that comes with a four-game losing streak.

With only days until Peyton Manning and the Broncos (3-1) fly into town, the Jets' latest defeat still eats away at them.

"It's tough,'' slot receiver Jeremy Kerley told Newsday, referring to Sunday's 31-0 loss in San Diego.

"It's No. 4 in a row. And you've got guys who are playing hard and busting their butts, so the energy -- it's gone a little bit. So we've got to dig deep, find some way to get it back.

"We've got to go out and prove ourselves week after week, but just with the pressure of four losses in a row, and then you've got an opponent like Denver, it's just tough,'' added Kerley, who has 19 catches for 168 yards and a touchdown. "You've got to climb out of a hole already and then you've got to play an opponent like that.''

Ryan understands his players' frustration over their 1-4 record, but he also wasn't pleased with the way they began practice Wednesday.

"Today we were kind of licking our wounds a little bit,'' Ryan said. "I told our team we've got to get a little more bounce in our step, a little more energy. It was very workmanlike. That's a good thing, but we've got to move past some things and let's get it on.''

But the Jets' slump appears to have shaken their psyche.

"I feel like that's just natural,'' Kerley said, referring to their lack of energy. "When guys are playing hard and playing at a high level, people are going to get fatigued and tired, and then you put a loss on top of that. It's almost like a mental thing.

"If we can get mentally back in it -- which we will -- we'll be all right.''

Geno Smith couldn't pinpoint why guys started practice "a little sluggish'' but said everyone "picked it up'' as it went on.

Yet Ryan remains as optimistic and energetic as ever. He proclaimed Tuesday that this season will be "far from an embarrassment'' in an ESPN New York radio interview.

The question is: Do his players share the same belief?

"I don't know, you'd have to ask them,'' Ryan said. "I believe that this team knows we're going to find a way to get it done and knows that we're going to find a way to win. So I would say so.''

Smith said it "can be dangerous'' when players get down on themselves, but he has "yet to see signs'' of that in the locker room. When asked if his team is "beaten down,'' Ryan denied it, but said he would prefer that his players turn the page on their dismal start.

"As a team we feel like we've let each other down somehow, that we're not where we want to be, certainly,'' Ryan said.

"But I expect that enthusiasm to pick up. I know for a fact that we'll be popping out of our skin to play this one. We're playing Peyton Manning & Co. This is as good as the NFL has to offer, and so who doesn't want to play arguably the best team in the National Football League?''

Shoutout to Demario Davis calling out teammates. I hope he continues. And on top of that Vick talmbout he wasn't prepared last Sunday.....

. We might as well tank now, but I want Idzik gone. I think he's the root of the issue. They still love Rex.

See what happens when you have a top receiver. A. Johnson making plays for Fitz. Would love to see somebody step up for us.

I hope Rex starts Vick on Sunday... We're gonna lose anyways, might as well give Vick some early reps and see how he fares out. Why didn't we keep Simms on the roster smh :{

Na I rather go down with Geno, it'll be our luck, Vick comes in jets win 5-6 games and jets end up with the 13th pick or some ****.

Season is over guys, just play spoiler if they can.

25 and Demario Davis transforming into a leader before our very eyes. Interesting to see football fans split on the blame between Rex and Idzik.
