2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

It's a regular season award. Nobody is discrediting Giannis cause of his futility in the playoffs. I know Brodie is polarizing as hell. But you take all the MVPs of the last decade, only maybe Bron and KD maintained or elevated their regular season play through the playoffs. Even Steph was significantly worse in that 16 playoff where he was unanimous MVP. It happens. The regular season is a separate entity.

They are discrediting Giannis, It's going on right now. People been saying since the Bucks left the bubble Giannis can't shoot, is he a Pippen, can he win a chip in Milwaukee. Out of all the "superstars" Russ is the biggest flawed. We have seen his shooting and decision making be a major reason why his teams don't win. Can't ignore it. Fair or not it does make people look at his regular season stats funny.

I’m still so mad Philly fans said his ceiling was Kawhi.....

He showed moments of great defense last year. But not gonna let him hold up a potential harden deal
He’s a solid defender but dudes really were acting like he was prime Kawhi. He was getting abused left and right by Tatum in the bubble. And he’s completely worthless offensively.

“Nothing ever starts on time,” a former Rockets staffer said via ESPN. “The plane is always late. The bus is never on time. … It’s just an organized AAU team.”

"As per sources, Paul’s biggest beef with him came when he refused to play in the offense just because he didn’t have the ball. He barely crossed the half-court if he knew Paul would have the ball. Harden became sick of Paul voicing his concerns and eventually, the two split up."

Sheesh

aye fellas :nerd:

anyone try these yet

Why would the Rockets leak this stuff when they're trying to get as much as possible for him?

short answer:

91OKnHHZTdL.jpg

they know they're going to have to trade him eventually and they know it's going to be unpopular among the fanbase. how do you sell to the fanbase that they should want to trade him? put out all the dirty laundry of him being selfish, bad teammate, bad culture, party animal, etc, and sell them on a new era and new culture. the article passes the blame of the environment to the past owner and front office as having enabled it. it also conveniently pins the russ trade exclusively on harden when there have been reports that front office members (morey) were prepared to fight him on it before Tilman stepped in and gave final approval. also neglects all the cost cutting moves Tilman has made since game 7. this article is a pretty good breakdown of the moves made.

The cost-cutting measures continued that summer. In August, the Rockets attached second round pick De’Anthony Melton in a deal with Phoenix in order to get off Ryan Anderson’s albatross of a contract. Melton won’t be a star in the NBA, but in his second season, he proved to be a valuable rotation player for the Memphis Grizzlies. In return, the Rockets took back Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss. Neither helped the team win games, but they did save the team a lot of money.

Fertitta told SportsRadio 610 he had no issues with paying the luxury the night before last season’s trade deadline, but instead of adding payroll, the Rockets subtracted. They saved some money by trading Knight, Chriss and a first-round pick in order to add Iman Shumpert, Wade Baldwin and Nik Stauskas. Then, in an incredible display of salary gymnastics, Daryl Morey got the team below the luxury tax line by making a flurry of cost-cutting moves. Morey pawned Stauskas and Baldwin to Indiana, attaching a second-round pick to them, and he finally found a taker for Anthony’s contract in the Chicago Bulls. To top things off, they just gave Ennis, who was in their rotation, to Philadelphia.

Shumpert entered free agency after last season, and instead of bringing him back, the Rockets let him go. From a basketball sense that was fine. Shumpert wasn’t overly effective in his short stint in Houston and he wound up going unsigned until the fall, but the Rockets could’ve just given him a one-year deal for around $6 million or so. Why do this? There are two reasons: He’s a veteran who has won a championship and knows what he’s doing, so he could still help you on the floor, however, biggest reason for bringing him back is that he would’ve given you another salary to trade in an attempt to try and improve before the deadline.

it boils down to actively shorting the luxury tax and trading picks and young players to shave salary. it doesn't even address that the rockets could have acquired 12M more in salary when they traded for Russ by expanding the trade to add a third team or asking OKC for additional players (jerami grant) but reportedly didn't explore those options.

at the end of the day, there's a lot of issues surrounding harden from poor playoff performances, his nonchalant attitude, his isolation playstyle etc, but the article, imo, reeks of a rockets PR piece to cover their *** and make the inevitable trade more palatable for the fan base. local media is already turning on him so it seems to be working. when the rockets inevitably don't get an "equal return" for a harden trade, it'll be easier to digest because the fan base will already be soured enough on him to take back whatever to get rid of him.

How Pat Riley gon react when Spo telling him "We running late cuz James at KOD"
Mims or one of Bron’s other boys tried to get on the team plane, and on a different occasion he also tried to stay an extra night in another city during the seasonRiley told him no both times.

It’d be an interesting dynamic. Maybe Riles/Spo got softer after seeing Bron leave as soon as his contract was up.

The show :pimp:

Its crazy, because I think he just played ok, in this one offensively. Still rusty, but showed he really ain’t miss a beat in terms of separation and pace. Misssed some bunnies (for
Him). But the impact was clearly there whenever he was on the floor. They had some guys out last night, that should buffer the rotation...and make the minutes when he’s off less drastic.

He’s slower but a a lot stronger now. Looks to help his defense and hopefully durability. Hope my dawg play 65+ games this year. Special basketball player.

Why would the Rockets leak this stuff when they're trying to get as much as possible for him?

Maybe the office is divided, maybe his agent is making all the leaks...it can be many things but all I know is that you can't win a chip with someone like that leading the way.
