Nah man. It was a clear goof .

I feel like I’m in bizarro world with the Ayton talk because he’s the type of big that gets maxed and then we call it a bad contract a few years later. Instead Phoenix is now tripping for not maxing him? They blew it with the Jalen Smith pick but not seeing how not maxing him is such a bad move by them. They’ll probably still get something back for him in a S&T. Clearly all the other teams are waiting on the KD dust to settle
I'm saying people are acting like it was clear before the draft Luka would be this good and far above Ayton.

Of course in hindsight it looks like the wrong decision.

But I am saying without hindsight, going into the draft, Ayton was being talked about as the clear first choice. So in reality on draft night the calculation the Sun's made was do with go with what seems like the sure thing in Ayton or risk it in hopes of landing a generational talent with Luka. In dudes act like on draft night it was reversed. That the Sun's chose against what would be a sure thing with Luka.

And they should have been comfortable with picking Luka after already being severely burned by taking a European player in a previous draft. I think it was very reasonable for the Sun's to be like "Ayton is our guy".

Luka was the youngest greatest Euro player of all time. Passing on him was insane, especially considering they hired his National team coach. They had the inside edge.

Completely agree with your sentiment. We literally have a phrase "Hindsight is 20/20."

So then "Great Euro player... but damn he's young" was a logical point of trepidation.

isn’t KD clearly the endgame?
Sure, but there are packages out there that are better than what PHX has to offer, IMO. And given KD's contract situation, BKN doesn't HAVE to trade him for something they feel isn't adequate.

No that’s not what I meant. To accomplish what Luka did in the Euroleague was unprecedented. A prodigy. All signs pointed to him being great. And before anyone compares him to Ricky Rubio, Luka’s resume was ****ting on Rubio.

I know that's not what you meant.

Facts: he was young & killing it in Europe.

You're taking those facts and saying "All signs point to him being great" was the only possible take/thought. I'm contending that "Great Euro player... but damn he's young" is another possible, legit take.

Wasn’t Ayton only drafted first because he was a Zona guy like Sarver. Now they won’t even offer him a second deal.

The Jalen Smith thing looks even more dumb if they actually let Ayton go. Extremely small sample size, but he's 14 and 8 in his games as a starter with some 3pt shooting and shot blocking.

If you weren't planning on keeping Ayton, why not just keep Jalen for cheap and actually develop him?

aytons pops grilled up the suns front office some conch and it was over
I don't even like conch but I rank Bahamians as the tied for #2 island for food in the Caribbean because they have mastered the fundamentals. I mean perfected them.

Stewed chicken, macaroni pie, rice-n-peas. No island touching them in those three things basics. Especially macaroni pie.

Trinis #1 because they got so many fire dishes. Jamaica tied for #2.

That wasn't the only reason but it was a big one

There wasn't some huge contingent saying Bagley or Luka should go #1

Which is why you saw Luka not only not go #1 but fall to #3

Vlade had some weird thing with Luka's dad as well. But Ayton being #1 was overall the consensus

Famb it is even dumber than that

If you don't want him, why not extend him and then trade him for a pick.

Jones said the were low on him because he wasn't that much better than the other bigs. But if Ayton walks, you only bigs will be Bismack and Saric coming off an ACL injury.

Dude had so much more value but because you chose to be an idiot the best you can get for Smith is Torey Craig. :smh:

My top 3 that year was luka, ayton, Trae lol.

I wanted to put JJJ above Ayton badly though. I had Bagley 5.

Another thing. Going into that draft there was a lot of talk about a big man would be a better fit with Booker.

They was talk about Booker moving to the point too.

Ayton's effort is a constant issue, not surprised Monty has had it.

You see flashes of what he could be and it is exciting. Then he will have stretches were it seems like he doesn't care that much.

He shows more effort in pregame and postgame dancing then he does actually playing the game :lol :lol
