2022 NBA Offseason Thread: Preseason kicks off; Things are fine in Los Angeles, Draymond beats the charges

I know what you're saying, and If I'm an NBA GM--I'm not doing business with another team in my division. But at this point, you have to listen to all offers, no? That's just bad business for the team at that point.

Why would BK want to trade KD into the same conference? That equally makes no sense. BTW, IF the Knicks do land Mitchell, that pretty much kills the Suns' chances of picking up KD, because they needed the Pacers AND Jazz in a trade to make it work.
They know they won't be near a contender without him so what difference would it make for their own fortunes?

If an East squad can offer them the best package that helps them remain competitive right now, that's where they'll send him

I mean, his parents being Nigerian immigrants I’d assume so.

He’s Greek but he’s the son of Nigerian immigrants.

It’s just weird he hasn’t gone to his parents home country yet.

Any 1st generation people I’ve met tend to have gone to their parents homeland at least once in their lifetime. Especially if money isn’t an obstacle.

Gotcha. Didn't know that his Nigerian ancestry was as recent as his parents. I thought it was thought it was further down the line, at least maybe 2 or 3 generations back.

You're right, that's weird.

Ehhhh, without details I do not think it is THAT strange because it all depends on how he was raised and what emphasis his parents put on their Nigerian ancestry. Despite where his parents are from he must clearly feel that Greece/Europe is his “home” and where he is “from”. Just my take on it.

IDK why it's weird that a ***** that born and raised in one place hasn't been to a place where his parents are from.

I doubt very seriously most of these ****** that have done an Ancestry DNA kit in the past decade have scheduled trips to go visit whatever African countries popped up on the list.

Very true…..

As a first gen who's spent extensive time back home, I feel like it's different if you don't need to do an ancestry test to find out where you came from. You've been directly exposed to the people and culture your whole life.

So it is a little weird to never visit, but then again every Nigerian I know has very little desire to be back in Nigeria so anecdotally it seems to be on brand.

Objectively, the Knicks offer a much better package than Miami.

But we all know BK will not do business with the Knicks. It's the same function I prefaced. If you're looking to do what's best for your team, you take the best available deal. Doesn't matter who you do business with at that point.

But the NBA front offices feel like consumer spending these days. Teams and Execs are overpaying for players and this has affected trading in the short term.

That's a non-starter though

It'd be like the Clips trading Kawhi or PG to the Lakers.

They can still find better packages elsewhere though, Toronto and NOLA would offer them the chance to still be relevant and in the playoffs right away rather than maybe in the future if the picks pan out

Know what’s weird.

Giannis has yet to visit Nigeria in his life and he’s been a millionaire for damn near a decade now.

Goes to Greece and basically tours all of Europe every Summer.
Crazy thing is that Antetokounmpo isn't even his real last name. It's Adetokunbo.

My boy goes back as often as possible. He just was there in January. But he did say most of his cousins haven’t been and have no desire to go. His brother went once and doesn’t ever want to go again

Assuming this article is legit, it looks like Giannis wants to go. Just hasn’t done it yet.

In this instance...the people and culture = JUST his mother and father. Just like storm2006 storm2006 said...NONE of us can speak to how much they encouraged his Nigerian "pride" or how he should go back one day, etc.

It just seems like strange discourse because he's such a high profile player and this is a weird time when it comes to anything surrounding race, ethnicity, culture, etc. Never seen anyone care if Lu Dort or Shai have ever "been back" to Barbados or Haiti. Do we care if Tristan Thompson has been to Jamaica or not?

So many weird sub narratives pop up whenever it comes to Giannis and Nigeria for some reason.

I have no desire to visit Cambodia where my parents and family are born, so I get it if Giannis doesn't either.
I dread going to Duncan, Oklahoma at any time or Pachuta, Mississippi in the summer just the same. It's fun for a short amount of time in MS though, and in spurts. #notthesameiknow

I respect your decision. Just very curious to know why.

Do you identify as Cambodian? Do you have Cambodian friends? Do you speak the language?

This is another thing…when you visit your respective motherland, are you talking about resorts/tourist spots? I’ve been to cancun, PV, DF, but that didn’t give me a picture of how my mom grew up. That picture might not represent where pmatic pmatic family is from.

Na man I’m just playing with him for not wanting to go.

It’s not that serious. He doesn’t want to go that’s fine.
