2023 MLB Thread; Say Hey, everybody: Rest In Power, Willie

Whether he's juicing or not, it's EASY to speculate knowing MLB's history w/ it's athletes and PED use (plus masking agents.) His streak right now is raising eyebrows...and for good reason. Going to be crazy seeing a guy who never hit more than 12 HRs in a MLB season end up with a crazy number by the end of the year.

Are relief Pitchers predetermined at all or is it all by chance?

What do you mean? When they enter the game?

RP's are brought in based on batter match-up.

I think he means if they become starters vs relievers, is it pre-determined for each guy or not. Least, I think that's what he meant.

If that is the case, it's a ton of factors, arm strength, location, how throwing affects their body (can they throw multiple days ok, but can't throw 110+ pitches in one day, etc) Their stuff, if they have a 2nd or 3rd pitch, lots of things like that. If they are a 1-2 pitch guy, odds pretty good you're in the pen so hitters can't see you 3-4 times in a game and know all your stuff by the second at bat. Guys that have 3-4 pitches tend to start. Some guys switch between both, Smoltz, Dempster, hell, even Chapman TRIED to be a starter, but, c'mon. No one throwin 100+ for a 100+ pitches and comin back 5 days later.

^Yea I'm talking Starting vs Relief coming into the Majors or from Draftday rather.

Stamina, variety of pitches, injury history, delivery in that order IMO.

From draft day these team scouts are on top of their game, they'll watch a kid pitch a little and know if they profile or project as a starter or reliever

MLB missed a good oppo to get the Cincy/Brewer game on.

Instead we get KC/CWS.

KC should be on my local channel not blacked out.

The 2017 Nationals are the 2013 Tigers unless Mike Rizzo trades for relief help
