You DO JUST ADD 9+3 and move on.

From there you go left to right so it would be 48/2 = 24

You end up with 24 (12) = 

It equals 288. 

If you wanted the problem to equal 2 it would HAVE to be set up in this format: 48/(2(9+3))

And I still can't believe son was just throwing parentheses in there like it was nothing. Really son, really?

so you can admit 2(9+3)= 2*(9+3)? but you cant admit 48÷2(9+3) = 48÷2*(9+3)
if you can admit that then 48/2*(9+3)=48/2*(12) 12 is at it simplest form therefore the parentheses are not even needed?  so 48/2*12= 288
