I've been hearing from many people that they've "cut the cord" on their cable subscriptions and never looked back. I hear about all the money they save and how much simpler their entertainment setup has been as well. I don't watch much TV anyway, but this has sparked some thought and maybe I'll give this idea some consideration, but I can't seem to justify doing this.

I don't watch much TV and when I do, it's to watch shows like True Detective, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, CNBC, Bloomberg and ESPN.

I know that I can watch all the TV shows from "other" sources using the internet, but I'm on the fence about sports.

I watch a LOT of sports. Football, Basketball, Tennis, Golf etc. I even have a lot of people over to watch big games. I just can't figure out how people watch sports when they "cut the cord" on their cable subscriptions. Are these people even watching sports for them to be effected?

Can someone please provide some perspective on this?

My buddy did this to save money, he watches a lot of sports like I do. He has to go to the bars to watch big games, or go to someone else's place. Or suffer through a crappy internet stream. I imagine it's pretty annoying

i dont have cable

i dont watch enough TV to warrant having it

sports, i be out or someobody else spot.

I didn't watch much TV prior to stepping away...

But it seems like TV is just a waste of time now.

At first, I did it to save money... But now, I don't see myself going back because I think it can just be a drain.

The time is filled with reading, thinking, getting with yambs, etc. Some people come over and say "you ain't got cable? :eek " but I'm like "Meh... I fill my time with other things"

I have Netflix for the yambs... And I stream from sites like project free TV when I just have to watch something like walking dead.

Most of my time was spent watching reruns of sports center when I had TV.

As far as big games, I just head to a bar or the friend's house... But i was doing that anyway...

Aren't you in new York? You should be fine after the initial shock of not plopping down and staring st the tube...

yep i agree with ricky

reading, thinking, yambs, NT>TV

It's can be annoying but it gets the job done. More often than not I'll be watching a crappy stream and be ahead of my boy who's watching it on his tv with cable. Not all the streams are crappy either. Some of them are quite good in terms of video quality. When they stop to buffer or just get shut down is super aggravating though.

Jail broken ATV 2 + Sunday Ticket + League Pass > cable.

I still have cable tho. :{

i don't have cable and I'm doing just fine.

I still got my 360 so I can watch ESPN, HBO and Netflix.

Sports was a little tough to get use to. For example, I use live streams to watch the Knicks

I didn't have cable or have the basic channels hooked up for six years after graduating college. I never watched TV so I didn't need it. However, every time there was a sporting event on that I wanted to watch, I was at the bar spending mad dough. The meant every Michigan State BBall game, of course all day Saturday for College FB, any golf major, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, World Cup, Olympic Soccer and Hockey, etc.

I figured I'd save a ton of money with cable vs. going to bars so I ordered cable last year. As of right now I'm not looking back. It's been so nice being able to catch games at home.

Edit - I never watch TV other than sports though. When I'm chilling, I listen to music. Music > TV.

Too poor for cable so I haven't had it in years. I downloaded all the shows I want to watch such as Breaking Bad, True Detective, Game of Thrones, or Keeping Up with the Kardashians (not srs on the last one)

Honestly grab a Netflix and Hulu account it will cost you about $15 a month. Somethings you watch require torrents but that's simple. Then grab one these

For sports

Then enjoy.

If you gotta have it all then grab a all access pass to the NFL.

Also for liking the big bang theory you disgust me

You guys have a point, but it seems like no one has brought up a strong argument for the lack of Sports.

I have a pretty big apartment and I have people come over all the time to watch games. It seems like "cutting the cord" is good for people who don't watch sports all that often.

Why would me and my friends want to go to a sports bar when we can all just chill in the living room and watch the game in a great media setup I have? Not to mention, sometimes guys like to chill on my balcony overlooking Central Park and smoke Hookah.

I guess the question now is--how do I watch live sports at home without having a cable subscription?

I'll need MSG and ESPN exclusively.

Sports aside I watch all tv shows online for free.

Then when considering sports, there are some pretty good streams.

Live sports is the big thing to give up but depending on what you regularly watch you maybe able to catch some games on antenna and NFL games with Sunday Ticket.
