NT, convince me "cutting the cord" is a good idea

im a homebody by nature so not having cable would be like death

Do you even stream bro?

You can get like a $100 box online that gives you everything, including sports streaming.

Cable is going the same route as dial-up.

It will be interesting to see if companies will start capping unlimited data or raising internet prices though.

trust me i know all about streaming i can even get pay per view sports but the quality is terrible... is this box similar to the illegal cable back in the day that has those pay per view channels :evil

From the articles I've read, that is indeed what is happening and what cable companies are moving to.

They know the next steps is cutting your TV but keeping the internet....so they are acting accordingly and monopolizing the internet in order to charge you high prices for that.

Also you can get a HD antenna for like $20 bucks and get the free local channels...

This little thing has a better HD signal than Dtv or Time Warner for the local channels. Only negative is it depends where you live and you gotta mess around tweaking it up/down, etc..

Yes if you need to watch Live Sports, you CANNOT cut the cord. You'll be subscribing for the rest of your life as a slave to the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc...

At this point in my life, I am definitely moving away from watching sports period. Starting to be a waste of time sitting there for 3 hours (12 hours on NFL Sundays) watching the same crap year in year out.

I dont have cable. This is what I have for the NBA, its 1000x better than league pass.

Ballsteams.com--- paid $70 for the year and it has every single NBA game in HD, you can DVR it, watch replays, pause it, watch on mobile devises, ipad, etc. Also it has both the AWAY and HOME feeds. Yes that means MSG is included.

For evyerthing else, buy a jailbroken Apple TV.

I cut my cable off for a few months just because they kept taking away channels and charging me for extras. They called me pretty much everyday asking me if a want to hook up my service again. Told them I had plans to go with a different service and they had to make it worth my while since what they offered such a sub par service. Got a god deal with tons of free channels. It was worth watching TV through the internet for a few months.

I went without cable for a few years when I couldn't afford it and I just felt disconnected when people would talk about whatever that was on.

I'm like most of you guys I need cable for the Sports. I only watch like 12 channels. I wish i could cut the cord.

I'd rather pay for the channels I want instead of 200 I don't need.

I just moved and was talking to my girl about this. She wants cable due she can watch her love n hip hop and bball thats. I told her she can get the basic of the basoc service and she has to pay it. I'm good on cable that shot expensive and if I aony watching nbatv or espn I don't even use it

Damn if you ain't watch cable I would have just PM'd you some sites for TV shows and movies, but iono, I know they got the HD streams you can pay for if you want to look that stuff up.

Anyone can help a nter out give me the website to watch stream sports

I want to cut this dam cable bill so bad but Im like most of you. I need it for the sports.

I hate paying my cable bill every month. I really feel like Im throwing away money.

I cannot wait till we see the day where we can pay a la carte for cable.

I just want to subscribe to ESPN and a few other sports channels and I'm set for the rest of my life. I don't think I can ever let go of watching sports in the comfort of my own home. Going to a bar is nice and all, but who wants to step out every night for a sporting event?

Didnt even know such a thing existed

You guys have a point, but it seems like no one has brought up a strong argument for the lack of Sports.

I have a pretty big apartment and I have people come over all the time to watch games. It seems like "cutting the cord" is good for people who don't watch sports all that often.

Why would me and my friends want to go to a sports bar when we can all just chill in the living room and watch the game in a great media setup I have? Not to mention, sometimes guys like to chill on my balcony overlooking Central Park and smoke Hookah.

I guess the question now is--how do I watch live sports at home without having a cable subscription? I'll need MSG and ESPN exclusively.
Seems like the reason why all of your friends are telling you how much money they're saving on cable is because they go to your place to watch sports / TV, there only needs to be one friend

Just kidding - I've always contemplated it, especially living in a one bedroom, but when I get home from work the comfort of being able to flip channels and find something to watch is great.

My buddy did this to save money, he watches a lot of sports like I do. He has to go to the bars to watch big games, or go to someone else's place. Or suffer through a crappy internet stream. I imagine it's pretty annoying

It's can be annoying but it gets the job done. More often than not I'll be watching a crappy stream and be ahead of my boy who's watching it on his tv with cable. Not all the streams are crappy either. Some of them are quite good in terms of video quality. When they stop to buffer or just get shut down is super aggravating though.
You're right, I use streams a lot myself. They're getting better and better in quality, pretty soon we'll have crystal clear HD streams. And there are some kind people on sites like reddit who will host their own streams in perfect quality for free.

But the quality isn't good enough yet where I'd wanna watch a stream on my TV (in the event that I had other people over) over watching Hi-Def 720p cable

Yep and when you step out every night and go to the bar, you're gonna spend money on food and drinks so if you calculate it on a monthly basis, you're pretty much paying cable prices
