I wasn't always into shoes. I remember having a pair of steel Xs in 5th grade and a pair of White/Red XIVs in 8th... but until after highschool my number one pair of shoes since then were a pair of light up shoes They weren't even LA Gears.. some super generic shoe from payless.
I remember getting somewhat into shoes during highschool after getting a hand me down pair of Air Metal Max's.
View media item 1032318But my Nike shoe game was short lived, as the popular trend then were K-swiss. My best friend was into fashion, so he'd always be onto the next trend. I went shopping with him and he ended up picking up a pair of white/grey/obsidian Dunks telling me to get a pair cause they're going to be the next popular shoe after AF1s.
"Nah, I'll stick with my K-swisses."
Two years later I end up buying my first pair of Dunks from TRUE SF.

(Don't let the time stamp fool you, I didn't start documenting my shoes until the following year.)
Around that time, SBs were starting to make head way. But it wasn't anything particularly hard to cop. In fact shoes like the Lodens, Sharks, Hulks, were all shelf warmers on Haight street. I was a bit more conservative with my choice of shoes back then. So I decided on something from the 3rd series SBs.
View media item 1032357Not being a fan of the True Red SBs, this was something I thought I could wear on a daily basis... and I still have the same pair to this day. Though I did want a pair of heinekens, but thought $150 was too much to spend on shoes at the time. Ha.
This pair started me looking at the Nikeskateboarding website. The one where it showed all individual shoes, and even what inspired the rider to pick the color. I think this is when I first one of my favorite SBs...

I searched for awhile, but no one was ever selling a pair in my size. But I remember offering a substantial amount when a pair came up on ebay.
My friend then told me about an online forum. One of the threads talked about some scammer, and how three members went to his house with Tennis rackets to get people's stuff back. Of course that site was Niketalk.
I was hooked. My little collection of dunks quickly went from two to many very quickly.
View media item 1032380I was really into red shoes at the time.
Its kind of crazy looking back at how I never really had to camp out for shoes at that point.
View media item 1032384The Buck SB I drove to SF with my friend at 7pm the day they released and we both go the size we wanted. With no real hassle other than having to drive 45 mintues.
The Artist series Dunks were my first real campout for shoes. My best friend and another one of my friends stayed in line overnight at Niketown SF for these. I contemplated getting the espos in a size not my own, but decided I'd most likely wear the Pharrell Dunks more.

The Ross dunks were also hard to find at that time. Only pair I ever saw was on eBay same seller always relisting this kind of beat up pair for the pretty high amount of $75.00. I sent him an offer of $40 just to see, and he accepted it. I ended up selling my black/gum griptapes because of the similarity between the two.
View media item 1032415I regretted that a lot, since a little while after that I started collecting all of the griptape dunks.

-Used shoes are fetching a premium now since the hole restoration boom. I bought my 94 IIIs for $25 on Niketalk. Now people want at least 75-100. Crazy.
-Certain shoes are fetching premium prices... Currys for 300-800 dollars?! While SBs from the earlier generation, sellers are wanting exorbitant prices for them. So there is no way I'm able to rebuild my original collection with out winning some sort of lottery.
