Adidas overtakes Jordan on list of top U.S. sport footwear

I find it interesting that there is rumors already about the Concord for next year. A part of me thinks its just bs rumors that people just like to come up with. Another side of me thinks this is nike creating the hype knowing that shoe is the ultimate ace in the hole. Idk. It just seems really early for that release to be talked about. And could this be a reaction from nike/jb to take that "spot" back from Adidas?
Seems like they hold 3 shoes in the highest regard. Chis bc3s and concords. I fully expect them to go all out making the latter 2 right.

Only thing they need to do to the concords to improve over the jams is making the upper part higher cut and the leather piece more robust at the ankle.

We all know what must be done to the 3s

After this it's basically the charcoal 7s and grape 5s oh and of course bred 4s.
Then they sell the company in 2020

would it even help JBs sales?

I mean yeah people will flock to any OG XI colorways but I am not even sure people would start buying Js now all of a sudden in anticipation of the Concords.
of course. space jams were a top 3 selling shoe in 2016. i believe they moved at least a million pairs. the only adidas pair to come close in sales were the superstar.

its not like jb is hurting lol. sure they've lost their market share they use to have but they are not struggling for sales by any means. they're fine but hopefully this makes them wake up and not be so complacent because they thought their spot was cemented. competition can bring out the best in business.

I meant would announcing the XIs mean people would start buying Js that are out now? As I said, XIs will sell for sure, guarranteed... but announcing or leaking the Concords release now doesn't mean the Retro 5s and/or 8s that are out now would start selling out. That is what I am talking about helping JBs sales.

OG XI colorways are one of those releases that doesn't even need an announcement more than a year ahead so that it would sell out, they could release this upcoming weekend without notice and it'll still sell out in seconds.

As you called it, their "ace in the hole" so it really needs no hyping at all.

why is this in the jordan forum? i feel as if this should be in the other section

so adidas beat nike but nike still on top? sounds about right

it's actually interesting, point of view in this forum doesn't feel as troll-ish than the thread/discussion in the general forum

Might coincide with the fact on a call with investors yesterday they revealed their profits dropped 24% this recent quarter.

Nothing's selling out except the classics. They know this, that's what this whole year has been about for them. Minimizing the NA classics was a test to see how strong the brand was on its own.

Now it's back to NA classics for the next 2 years. And since Mike knows what's up now with his brand he's likely going to sell while it's at it's peak and before the inevitable downfall. Basically, the next wave of classic NA pairs will artificially raise the perceived value of the brand thus allowing him to cash out big before they empty the vault and the public interest goes into a huge slump.

I don't think JB has a sales problem as much as they do a perception problem.

There's a lot of JB product on sale and shelves, because they're putting out a GR every single week. Before I could count on a JB release each pay week. Now you might get several a week. A GR along with one or two limited pairs.

Adidas was making every NMD and ultraboost limited at first. Yeah, a size run or two of NMD's or ultraboost might sell. But if you have four to eight size runs of the latest Jordan? When they start increasing product, they begin to sit.

A lot of it is area also. A lot of Jordans that might sit online or other places sell out in some. I was hoping to use a coupon and couldn't, because the V's and XIII's were sold out.

There's one over there also

It's because most of us here have been on this board longer and aren't just in it for the hype. We complain about JB.

Nike’s Jordan brand, in particular, has faced problems. It has always thrived on exclusivity, but analysts believe it may have tarnished its image by putting out too many shoes, many of which are the old styles the brand has long leaned on and don’t offer anything fresh. Adidas managed to overtake Jordan as the number-two brand in US sports footwear recently, largely by capitalizing on the fashion shifts in the US, according to the research firm NPD Group.

Nike is actively working on these issues. On yesterday’s call, Nike brand president Trevor Edwards said he is focused on managing the brand’s “balance between scarcity and scale.”

welp, hypebeast got what they want..back to cutting supplies :lol

Well If they are changing their process to be a limited prestige type brand again then it is was it is I guess. I hate it, but that's business. I will still buy, but nike was doing a good thing for a couple years now by making their releases obtainable. Hype trumps it all. Just like Magic33 said, perception. I hope the people that *****ed about releases that have sat on shelves are happy now.
