Free market/corporate profits > environment/air quality

I guess the rich over there live on Elysium?

Be safe over there.

The blanket of pollution hovering over Shanghai this morning should be swept away by this afternoon as a cold front pushes through the city, forecasters say.

The Air Quality Index will be lowered from the current 320-340 range to a 270-290 range by the afternoon as cold winds blow through the city and disperse the smog, Shanghai Daily  reports.

“Weather conditions will get better to disperse the pollutants after the arrival of the cold front,” Kong Chunyan, a chief service officer at the weather bureau, said in the report. “But overnight fog and light morning haze are still possible.”

This past week, Shanghai saw record-setting, off-the-chart amounts of smog. The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau even resorted to lowering the air quality  benchmark to reduce the number of alerts in the city after AQI levels hovered around 500 (extremely hazardous).

Experts are saying that a long-term solution to the smog is still a long way off, and cities are trying to create a detailed breakdown of their local pollution sources, according to SCMP.

"The breakdown is different from region to region and from time to time. Though we do know the general pollution sources, a more detailed breakdown will make pollution treatment measures more efficient," said Chai Fehe, vice-president of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.

"We must face up to the realities, the treatment of smog will be a long battle, Yan Naiqiang, a professor of environmental science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, added.

so reckless and irresponsible, but our country and other prosperous nations are also to blame and should be footing the bill for this.

we go and build factories because we cant get away with that kind of ish here, they are hurting for money there and will take any job.

there needs to be some kind of reform in these kinds of practices especially when their repercussions can be fatal to a whole nation.

It looks like a blanket of fog, smog! That's crazy OP, stay safe out there. :smh:
