That's a little deceptive on the pricing. $125 is actually $255 retail today with inflation. So yes, they've increased the prices, but relative to inflation their pricing hasn't gone up as much as one would think when you just look at it on paper.
Nike did a lot of their pricing in the '90's based on materials and size (low-mid-high). I think after Jordan retired and they launched the first retros that sat, they re-evaluated pricing in 94 and were a little unsure of demand at a higher price for a player not even playing the game. Even selling the IX was a little weird at the time as no player had their own shoe and... didn't play the game!I left a comment there too, but yes, you're right about the normal steady increase. From experience, the 4 was $115, the 5 was $120, the 6 $125, and the 7 $130 (I'm almost positive I remember a $5 price bump for the Playoffs and Cardinals but can't swear to it) . The 8 started at $135 like usual, then for whatever reason those Playoffs jumped to $140 mid cycle. Then Mike retired and I guess they figured he wasn't playing and needed to find a way to keep people buying so they dropped the 9 to $125. They kept it there for the 10 and 11. Dropped the IE to $110, then bumped the 12's way up to $140. Wild times!
From what I can recall the 7 is where things started getting weird. The 6 was definitely $125, but the 7’s were $125 or $130 depending on where you bought from as I recall. I think stores like FTL, Champs and the like retailed the 7’s for 130, but dept stores retailed them for 125 as I recall. TTS - I threw on my 07 Aquas to see how the fit differed and the 2023 Playoffs feel a bit less snug in the toebox but its really slight.
