Castro_2A former Marine-turned-television tough guy known as "Militia" on NBC's souped-up, prime-time version of the classic '90s show "American Gladiators" found himself bogged down in controversy a week before the show kicked off Jan. 6 after media reports revealed he appeared on gay porn Web sites.

Bloggers outed Alex Castro - who show officials said is a former Marine, although Corps officials couldn't verify his military background by press time - as a one-time gay porn star who posed and performed alone - and aliased - on various Web sites.

Show producers told The New York Post they had no idea Castro had appeared naked on the sites, according to a Dec. 29 story, but indicated no plans to take his scenes out of the show. He had not been deleted from NBC's "American Gladiators" Web site as of Jan. 4.

Marine Corps Times contacted NBC to interview Castro, but he was not available by press time. NBC spokeswoman Melissa Armstrong said the network is not taking a position on the situation.

Castro taped the first nine episodes of the pilot season with the other 11 Gladiators - including former Air Force Academy cheerleader and KC-135 maintenance officer Tanji Johnson, known as "Stealth" on the show.

The show was set to broadcast its first two episodes Jan. 6, but the rest of the season will run Monday nights at 8 p.m. Much like the original show that aired from 1989 to 1996, it will pit muscle-bound American Gladiators against amateur athletes from across the country in concocted athletic events like Assault, Power Ball, The Wall, and the unforgettable final event, The Eliminator.

The 2008 version, featuring pro wrestler Hulk Hogan and female boxer Laila Ali as hosts, will have some new twists. For example, instead of falling into a foam pit, contestants and Gladiators will plummet into a water tank.

Show looks terrible, but great avy Ska. Take out the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and it really is sweet. Pearl Jam and Sublime freakin' rule. AmericanGladiators will be one for 4 months, then gone

^ Thanks, bro.

But 'take out the Bosstones'? *insert largest stoneface ever*
laugh.gif
The Bosstonesare my favorite mainstream band... ever. I'm not going to say that I could go for weeks of just listening to them and only them; I'm going to say thatI DO go for weeks of listening to them and only them.
laugh.gif
I don't know anyof their names, what high schools they went to, or any of that other 'superfan'/stalker stuff; I just like love their music.

A lot.

But yeah, the new avy = all of my teams + all of my favorite bands

C'mon now Ska, you know the Bosstones don't touch Pearl Jam or Sublime. Even 311 for that matter! Uh oh, take this to the music forum?

I will hear no more of this blasphemous nonsense.

Truth be told, it's just about personal preference.

I don't need anyone in the music forum to inform me that Sublime and 311 and Pearl Jam (and SO many other bands) have accomplished more than the Bosstoneshave; I'm aware of that.

I just like the Bosstones better. Not because I think they are more accomplished than other bands, but because I like them better. The bands in my avatar aremy favorite bands... listed in the order I like them. I personally like the Bosstones more than any of the other bands you see in my avy. That doesn't meanthey're better than the other bands; it means I personally think they're better.

There is not one Bosstones song I don't like. I can't say that about any of my other favorite bands; they all have at least a few songs that Idon't like.

Man, you've got me thinking Bosstones lyrics now.
laugh.gif
I'm telling you, don't have me hijack my own thread and then move it to the Music forumbecause I hijacked it into a 'Bosstones Appreciation' thread that strangely began with a page and a half of people talking about American Gladiators.
laugh.gif

I will say this, though: what other popular bands have a song that explicitly calls for an end to racism, but the song isn't in an angry tone?('Let's Face It')

Haha, that's awesome. I am now going to find my M.M.B. CD................
