From previous threads pointing out the contradictions and fallibility of religion there have been like a handful of Muslim NTers that participated or at least chimed in. I'd assume there's more that didn't bother to part take.

Some of the main practices include:
Praying five times a day. A lot of people have difficulty with this one but God always accepts any effort you put forth towards him.
Avoiding alcohol and intoxicants unless it's for a medical reason.
Avoiding pork.
The Quran is an expansion of the Bible. It includes many of the fundamental beliefs and practices that are held in the Bible and contains some very insightful scientific facts considering it's over a century old.
Allah is the Arabic translation for the word God. Allah is the God of all Abrahamic Faiths (i.e. Arab Christians and Arab Jews use the word Allah because it simply means God).

^ I cant speak for the whole Muslim population, but for me personally it's the amount of scientific knowledge displayed in the Quran. The Quran was composed in an age where people thought the earth was flat, whereas the Quran has multiple verses that display knowledge about the shape of the earth, the universe expanding,etc..

I was unaware of avoiding alcohol. I hang out with a few muslims and they drink just as much as the rest of us. They do avoid pork, beef, and shrimp though.

Not all Muslims are perfect. No different from Christians/Jews/etc. However, we should keep thoughts of Allah (swt) and try our best to follow our deen.
They avoid the meat, most likely because it's not halal/kosher meat.
I would suggest that you visit your local masjid (mosque). There are some brothers and perhaps the Imam that can provide you with some literature.
I hope you seek what you're looking for. Islam actually saved and change my life around. Alhumulillah! (All praises due to God)

Yo man no disrespect to fellow NTers, but I advise you to seek a proper figure for more in depth information, especially if you are considering converting.
Islam is a life long practice though. There is no end to the knowledge nor the life style. It is a blue print to a successful life, and if not in the world, then surely the after life. A large part of Islam rests on your ability of understanding you are NOT in control and giving that to God in all aspects of life.. Which is pretty much the exact opposite of the movement you see now adays talking about " I will it, and it comes into existence" it is the time of supreme arrogance from human beings, and Islam helps you maintain a grounded view. A humble view...a natural approach to the connection of man, god, and earth.
Those who are spiritual can find deep spirituality in Islam.
There are five basic tenants of islam. Called the Islamic pillars. As a Muslim you must have belief in their existence and practice.
1. The shahada ( I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, and that Mohammed was his PROPHET"
The reason this is the number one pillar of Islam is due to the Mono theistic aspect of Islam. There is only one god, all praise is due to him. Adam, Noah, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, etc. Were all JUST prophets. Not god, not the son of god, just people sent on behalf of God. This is a major difference between Islam and Christianity, as Christians do not believe in the prophecy of Muhammed, although historically the man was great and accomplished more in his life than any person through out history.. It is evident as time passes, religion looses validation to humans and slowly fades. Hence the reason there were prophets sent to all groups of mankind and tribes to try to inform them of the true message. However nothing can stop time, and surely like broken telephone it continues to fall apart. You can see it even by the post in this thread that said something along the lines of "seeing how many threads pointed out the fallacies in religion im surprised anyone would want this" this is just natural human progression. And this is MENTIONED in the Quran, that at one point religion will be as hard to hold onto as a burning rock. But there in lies the strongest foundation for Muslim belief. And that is the Quran. Words did not change in the document since revelation, and this is dear to us as the text has remained one message.

So i do not want to deter you nor do i want to give false info, but i wil do my best. and if you want to continue talking i can write up a lot more stuff. I just pointed out 1 thing though there are 4 more.

Are there any unbiased sources that are also knowledgeable on Islam? I would definitely like to read more about it, but I'd like to see trusted opinions both within the faith and outside it. I've heard of plenty of scholars of Christianity that are not Christian, so I suppose I'm looking for scholars of Islam that are not Muslim. I hope that all makes sense.

I'm not necessarily looking for a scientific perspective (though I appreciate what you shared). I'm looking for a trusted non-Muslim scholar's point of view of Islam.
