I'll be going in to my local AT&T since I got the unlimited data plan

I ordered through the apple app and it automatically showed my unlimited data. Never even gave me the option to select otherwise

so if i preorder through apple.com instead of att.com i won't ahve to call a bunch of times like stillmaticshay stated a few pages back?

Do it from the orders part of your account. you can only change it once your order status is "processed" rather than received. Still waiting for that to happen - prob gonna try it in the morning.
