Good question, it's been covered throughout this thread.Has anyone here had issues with their identity like they felt they weren't American enough and/or not Asian enough? Like you're stuck in the middle. How did you overcome it or find a way to accept it?
I'm guessing this question is more for those who were born/raised in America, but I guess it does affect immigrants as well. And when I say Asian, I'm referring to whatever E or SE Asian country you or your family is from.
Just wanted to hear some thoughts on the topic. Thanks.
As a first generation Asian-American, I resented my heritage growing up and as I hit college, I embraced it and now love it. At the end of the day, you can't change the color of your skin or your ethnicity. People will always have preconceived notions about you, but I won't catch this L just to appease them.
And everything gets thrown out of the window when I speak that smooth Spanish to the mamis, connect seamlessly with almost everyone from different backgrounds, and see how I carry myself. I never let my skin color dictate who I am, how I should act, who I associate myself with, and who I give the deep strokes to.
