Who are y’alls favorite asian directors?
I know E everysingletime must have an EXTENSIVE list
1. Edward Yang (my )
2. Wong Kar Wai
3. Johnnie To
4. Hirokazu Koreeda
5. Hou Hsiao Hsien
Not exactly a director but Wong Kar Wai is nothing without Christopher Doyle
Takeshi Kitano
Niketalk dont love Takashi Miike??
Nah he cool, buts he outside my top 10 though
Let’s not get too crazy here my man...
As Tears Go By was shot without Doyle and you could already see WKW develop his visual style in that
Chungking Express was half shot by Doyle and half shot by Andrew Lau. Could you tell the difference
Doyle is listed as DP for In The Mood for Love but 90% of what you see in the movie was shot by Mark Lee because they essentially reshot the entire movie again in Thailand and Doyle wasn’t available for that.
And I might be in the minority but I love The Grandmaster
This is all not to say that Doyle isn’t WKWs greatest collaborator, which he is, but put some respect on WKW name
Regret not watching in theaters when I had the chance.Since we talking about directors, Imma throw a spotlight on Chinese director and writer Hu Bo on this list. Dude made this great first movie and then offed himself. Such a loss.
Great knowledge! I never knew that.
*The scenes in Fallen Angels...I can frame them
Dude you see it eventually?Regret not watching in theaters when I had the chance.
Man I miss Arsicault so much. Don’t think they’ve been opened since covid starteddanger style
Thanks again for recommending Arsicault . My wife said you ruined Parisian Bakeries forever since it was better than any in Paris.
We're in NY now and nothing comes close.
not yet. I have criterion channel and it’s available there so I’ll get around to it eventually.Dude you see it eventually?
I appreciate and enjoyed your recommendations bro.
I watched that two weeks ago, it was ok. Story is a little more simple. Good animation. Your Name is still better. For anime fans, Weathering With You is out in the wild.
