Asian Culture Discussion Thread

lol I remember I got into a debate with this Filipino guy at high school that he would be considered Asian in the census
He said that he's not Asian, rather Latino :lol

If there's transgender, can there be transracial/transethnic? I'm not too good with the semantics, but I assume you get my point.

I feel you dawg....just the guy who told me this looked Asian :lol
I know Filipinos that look more Spanish than Asian so i can see their point

Look, the Philippines has a long history of colonization and mixing of people from other places. Hawaii or Samoa or Polynesia is not one of those places.

Trying to be an AMG when you're a C-class

back in the day every pinay said they were spanish :lol

My aunt said my great grandfather was from Spain so I'll call myself Eurasian sometimes.

I need to do that 23 & Me genetic service thing. Really curious about it.

Filipinos and Hawaiian culture fascinate me. I know there is a big percentage of them living there but there is an almost equal amount of Japanese there, yet mostly the Filipinos are the ones that take Hawaiian culture so close to heart. A lot of my Filipino friends who were born here in the Bay Area go to Hawaii literally every year and no where else. Almost all of them have Polynesian tattoos and everything. Talk about die hard.

there are two huge neighborhoods that are majority Filipino, lots of 3rd generation Filipino families that were here from the sugar cane era and we have people moving here from PI all the time. the difference with Japanese though they were here in Hawaii earlier(Japanese plantation workers came like 30 years before) we don't have that influx of new Japanese people moving here. Also the local Japanese are different from Japanese from Japan.

Hawaii culture or local culture is a lot different from Hawaiian culture

Also check this out for filipino tribal tattoos

Filipinos who identify as Pacific Islanders are posers, period.

I told this story before on nt but its fitting that i tell it again.

Back in high school there was this Filipino chick who would always unprovokedly spew that Filipinos weren't asian and classified as Pacific Islanders. Well one day during her speech this Samoan chick overheard her and walked over and straight g checked her during lunch in front of everyone. Baby girl never uttered those two words ever again for the rest of her high school career.

Pretty stupid of the "Samoan" chick.... given Samoan blood are categorized as Polynesian.

In Hawaii, it's commonly known that Samoans/Tongans/Hawaiians/Maori... ect. are Polynesian.

Filipinos, Guamanians and even Chamorro were considered "Pacific Islanders"

I personally don't understand what the big deal is :lol Filipinos also have Spanish blood, so I see why some of them say they are Spanish.

So are Malaysian, Taiwanese, Japanese, and Singaporeans considered pacific islanders also?

no, the term pacific islander doesn't encompass all islands in the pacific ocean. it doesn't really mean anything either though pretty sure it's just for census related ****

I agree, just some government made up **** :lol

I remember filling out paperwork, and it said something like..

1. Caucasion
2. European
3. Latino/White
4. Puerto Rican

:lol

Oh and don't get even get started on Black, African, Dominican ethnicity.

All a bunch of hoopla... if they identify as one group, let them be. :lol Ain't nobody right.

Why Filipinos stay trying to claim Pharrell tho

They try to claim everybody. I remember my dad would claim people he saw on tv all the time. I didn't give a eff. Unless they're a relative who will give me money, it doesn't matter to me. If you wanna take pride in claiming rob schneider then have fun.
