Going on a trip this weekend through United and being given 4,100 award miles after the whole thing. Can anyone explain how they work? Can I use them for future flights and is how much I'm getting even much at all?

Check the awards section for United; I accumulate miles through American Airlines and EACH WAY you need about 12,500 miles to get a "free" ticket (you only pay tax which is a few bux). But the flights available for award members suck meaning weird times, not everything is available, sometimes 2-3 stops for your whole flight. It's not a bad thing, just need to book way in advance to get a decent flight but i'm sure you're going to need a lot more miles that 4,100.
