In my old West Philly apartment, I had major mice problems (due largely to the fact I had a filthy crackhead living underneath me... when she got evicted, the mice problem magically went away). Anyway... (this was before I got my cats)....
The normal snap traps work just fine. The biggest thing is positioning. Use a small dab of peanut butter. Then, you must position the trap so the mouse has to come ACROSS the trap, not that it can get to the trap from the front.
Good luck. It's a gross and creepy problem to have.
Of course, my suggestion now is to ADOPT a cat
