Beyoncé's Lemonade Changed My Life ... (It's Really Not A Music Thread)

Why do people want celebrities to be activists? IMO Beyoncé just doing that performance is enough. It's more than what a lot of people are doing. Beyoncé is an artist she did her art with a positive message and everyone wants her to do more...like what? What the hell else is she supposed to do...she did a pro black performance on National Television at the Super Bowl. That's a big thing.

Doesn't make any sense. If Bey was an Afrocentric chick with an Afro, and wore kente clothing 24/7 and used the exact same images in "formation", people would appreciate it more. But it's coming from Beyoncé, so people are skeptical, say she's not doing anything etc.

Truth be told, there are a lot of messages in Beyonce's music if you put it all together. She encourages young women to be independent on one hand. She then tells women it's okay to be soft/feminine and cater you your man (if you've never got served up to "Cater to you", you're missing out :hat). Then she's telling women to embrace your black features....and addresing police brutality. 3 very different topics over a number of years that ultimately are relevant to a lot of women.

I can see how it doesn't make sense to dudes. But once you take a step back and look at her the best you can from a black woman's POV...it makes more sense. She could do a lot less with her platform. This is cool to me.

Man if Beyonce was an Afrocentric chick with an Afro, and wore kente clothing 24/7...she wouldn't be "Beyonce"

I get that. What I'm saying is, packaging and how a music artist is viewed plays a part in how a message is received.

If Beyonce introduced you to Malcolm and the Panthers :{

Hell no. :lol I said her fans. Read bruh.

I was using 'you' generally

I hear you, but I don't think that's even a bad thing. It's not like they're teaching these things in school. They do everything to try to twist and hide our history. We gotta dig and search for our history. Then when they do talk about the Panthers they try to paint them as bad dudes when the truth is they were about protecting and providing for their communities.

Celebrities have power. Why's it ok for corporations to use that power to sell things but the common person can't request that they use that power for a social reason?

Beyonce could tell every one of her fans about how she doesn't support a certain product or company and insist they follow suit, and they'd follow suit.

Now, we should all be aware that the local community organizer, teacher, etc. should have a greater impact than a celebrity, but that same person doesn't have the money and notoriety that celebrities do.

Celebrities have a lot of power and influence. Beyonce stans are like a religious group. :lol

Look at Kanye, he got dudes paying crazy prices for wack sneakers. If those were called Tyga's dudes wouldn't give a damn about 'em.

Pretty much how I feel about it. Her music, persona and how she uses her influence is for black women and I think thats great.

It's like when you smashing a chick you don't really like but you put yourself in a certain frame to still allow for passionate, amazing sex. Bey realized pain makes good music. She probably cries thinking about the fake scenarios and feeds off that.

What if this chick is actually smarter and more diabolical than everyone thinks.

She makes jay z relevant.

Lemmon pepper wings and a freeze cup tho

I disagree with this. I dont think she had to realize pain makes good music. Everyone already knows that there are multiple genres of music dedicated to pain, people have greatest hits albums dedicated to pain. Its impossible to have a revelation about this as an artist.

And the scenarios that she outlines, are true to some one. It doesnt have to be her truth but it's most def someones. This could be her mother's story, her sisters, any fan she has. How does that make it less real?
