Anyway...... I'm glad to see that this thread is stil standing, a lil shaky but still
I see that it would be more productive to brainstorm on ways to get off the porch and start working.
Teaching instead of preaching, all the narratives have been said already up to this point. question is how do you go about it.
Everybody wants to go from 0 to 100 but don't understand that it's harder to get thru to people while your critizing them, be better to be patient and optimistic
I know it's minuscule to the grand scheme, but I've been working in my local area to get businesses with large open walls in the middle of the more urban areas to work with me on putting together community art walls. I understand the geography of it all, A community art wall cannot be in certain spots, I get sticky myself, so I'm going to put my own money up to make a few murals down here in those spots.
I think that art is universal and everybody no matter what their interests are can appreciate it. The fact that it is in the more urban areas and not some space downtown or not some upscale museum is reason enough to take a shine to it
It's from locals for locals, around my way, there isn't any street art like there probably is where you guys live, all the graffiti here has been buffed out.
I wanna expose these kids to real artistry, open their minds to a world they probably never knew, opposed to being exploited to whatever they see on TV, In the process maybe I could make a few artists or at least make someone interested.
I've already got a few spots (may have to bribe some people, but I'm okay with it lol) and I understand the possible consequences of making these walls. I may make a few vandals, I may make a few hecklers (regarding success) but I feel no plan is perfect and if I help broaden a few minds, I'm willing to take the risks.
Working on a few quirks but I should have my first one started in September, huge walls outside of an auto shop, it's in the perfect spot, on a main road and so much space. I contacted a few underground vigilante's and alot of great artists in my area, their all pumped, once all the other artists in my area find out they are going to freak as well. Im even open to out of towners contributing, Im going to take the lead ahead of my fellow, so that it can have a strong base. I hope that in the spirit of being creative and genuine and working not for money but for pride that this wall brings an overall feel of love and respect and comradery from the artist to the people. I know it's not gonna stop anybody from killin each other but it's a step closer. It's also somewhere where all the kids walk to go to school, Im hopin this wall gives somebody a little bit of quintessence of their hometown, and they take it wherever they're going. Let me know if you guys have any ideas, suggestions.
