Buffets....

Yes... The Seafood Buffet at the Rio especially FTW.
Actually buffets at Vegas in general FTW.

Sushi buffet is the bizness. It's expensive for sushi so might as well go to an AYCE one to get your money's worth. Best and fairly priced one was Sushi Pier in Reno, NV.

Biff my guy what's good!
Floating boats go around with all kind of easy to make rolls that are freshly made. Not often that a roll will last a long time and remain untouched because everyone wants to eat and it's so good. Mixed in are other plates of sashimi, nigiri, or other appetizers like bbq skewers, seaweed salads or dessert.

You then can ask any of the sushi chefs in front of you for any of the really nice rolls that take skill and time to make. Oh and the fried bananas are $$%+@@*

Man that is hardly a buffet.  That is your average sushi restaurant that is easy to hit up on the go.  For a real Japanese buffet that has all types of sushi including sashimi check this place out.  www.todai.com

co-sign and i want more info on that sushi buffets

Fuji's the spot in Davis, CA (those signs looked familiar). They also have competition called Davis Sushi Buffet a block away.

It's like sushi boat, boats holding about 4-6 plates floating on top of a moving stream of water (these are usually oversauced, older rolls, and if you're the first ones there either for lunch or dinner, the sushi is usually from the night before (refrigerated) or the lunch period).

Aside from this, you can also order sashimi, nigiri, and specific rolls that will be made on the spot. I must admit though, the fish will not be the freshest or best quality (it's less than $20 a person and you can literally surpass that value with a roll or two at a non-buffet spot). Also, you can order soft shell crab, fried oysters, and basically anything you would find at an average Japanese restuarant.

I use to WRECK those two spots above when I was in college.

PS: I would not rank todai with the spots listed above..not even close. And I've been to my share of "sushi buffets". You really have to be there, people literally drive 1.5-2 hours, and use to wait for upwards of an hour before the second spot opened, just for those locations.

They really do own. My main place is Seoul Kalbi in Northridge, where it is less than 20 bucks for unlimited Ban Chan (side salads, always kimchee and usually bean sprots, sea weed, mac or potato salad, marinated tofu and sometimes raw viggies or clear noodles), you get soup, rice, green sdie salad and then unlimited plates of about ten different types of meat, usually beef with a huge pork belly, esentially large pieces of raw and unsmked bacon.

You get to cook it on grill at the center of your table, with the help of tongs and scissors (to cut up the pork belly, chicken and deboned ribs).

The other very good deal for AYCE/Buffet are the lunches at Indian places. Some places are too westernized, with too much chicken tikka masala and others can have just too view things. Many Indian places though, for less than 20 dollars, will have a dozen or more things. Generally the place is good if all or almost of the dishes are vegetarian, there are multiple legumes (lentils and other beans), many veggie dishes/curries, a good selection of chutneys, some fried veggie dishes and if they serve meat, lamb and goat usually indicate that it is authentic and good.

The places to avoid are Chinese buffets, every since one I have ate in has been terrible and I have never seen one person who is Asian in there, let alone heard Mandarin or Cantonese being spoken in those houses of soggy fried food, mangled "sushi" and usually tacos and pizza and potato salad. Those Chinese buffets are not Chinese, let alone authentic Chinese. What they are are bad or rather they are authentically bad.
