Call of Duty is like the Mortal Kombat of the arcade right now.

Eh.  I thought it was a 2 part question.
If all you wanted to know was that will MW3 online be free you could've worded your question like this : While on the subject of MW3, is it true that we will have to pay to play online. How will online multiplayer differ from MW2?

I think maps are supposed to be smaller with less long line of sights.

Point streaks instead of kill streaks.

Three different sets of "kill streaks" - assault, support, specialist

there's gunna be way more UAVs and counter UAVs called in mw3 than in mw2

everyone will be running assasin pro instead of stopping power pro ( not in game )

pretty much it.  I think.  mw3 looks pretty much the same as mw2 otherwise.

Spoiler [+]
why I have a feeling this is another troll question though

Activision Blizzard has managed to pump up Call of Duty to a Goliath-like status in online gaming for the past several years, so it was only a matter of time until the publisher thought of a way to sap more money from dedicated players. Its answer is Call of Duty Elite, a service that offers stat-tracking, group management and social features for $50 a year. The fee also covers downloadable map packs that non-members will have to buy individually.
The Activision Publishing CEO sells the service to Gamasutra as a way for gamers to save money on Call of Duty games' pricey downloadable maps, reasoning that four map packs at $15 each would cost $60 a year. So far, the cheapest way for hardcore gamers to pick up an Elite subscription seems to be to buy the $100 Modern Warfare 3 "Hardened" edition, which comes with a membership and costs $40 more than the regular, presumably "Softened" version of the game.

Another option is to wait for membership codes from the Hardened edition to go up on eBay.

Stat-tracking should be similar to the stat tracking Bungie does with Halo, except you pay for it. They are "supposed" to release something for this service every month but I doubt that will be just multiplayer maps. Has to be something else but I don't know (maybe Spec Ops maps?). As much as I'm against this, it is a okay deal if you buy all CoD maps no matter what. I think you they also will release early to members.

I HATE DL CONTENT

Not right.... they are gonna start just selling a blank disk and make you pay for everything

And that is a MAJOR reason games, as OP stated, have been shifting towards a multiplayer experience. Would you not be excited to make money on a product after you already released it? Now we have game developers releasing a game and having day 1 dlc ON THE DISC. Capcom does this all the time and Valve did this with Portal 2. What we are doing is essentially buying a game for full retail, and then having to pay extra to unlock a portion of the game on a disc we bought. It is sickening but yet we still do it (I know I do

, take my money Capcom

) And with the rise of GameStop, its gotten to the point where if you can't afford to get a game new, you will have a "lesser" experience because games are now coming with a one-time use online pass to make it an incentive to keep the game. So unless you pony up an additional $10 or $15 when you buy the game used, you are only getting half of the experience.
Great example unfortunately:

Marvel vs Capcom 3 came out in February 15.

Months in advance they announced there will be DLC chars coming out (I think they came out a month later so in March)

No other chars come out since (Capcom eventually will blame the tsunami)

Announce Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom in July. Coming out November 15 (exactly 9 months later).

UMvC3 will balance the game, add an additional 8 chars., and change some mechanics (up new total of chars to 50).

Game was supposed to have 58 but they wanted to release the game this year. The remaining 8 are being worked on and will come out as DLC later

Oh, and all the DLC for MvC3, it WILL NOT be on disc for UMvC3 (so make sure to buy that as well says Capcom)
