They say it's breaking news(doesn't seem like it for me) but I guess the frontrunner director for Suicide Squad 2 dropped out to do the Jungle Cruise movie for Disney. Dude was the frontrunner and didn't have the job yet, so I don't see why it's worth reporting.

I honestly don't see Affleck as Batman after Justice League ESPECIALLY if the film gets negative reviews. I like Affleck in the role but I hate that they made him so much of an older Batman. The Batman solo film wants to explore rogue galleries and prime Batman so do you de-age Affleck? Or you just use just for men on his grey temples and tell viewers to look at Ben younger? If WB is smart you make the Batman solo film a Damien Wayne intro. Use Affleck's acting prowess and older age as him getting confronted by baby mama talia and getting a child dropped off on him. Have it be set after JL. You keep continuity, you give Ben a really meaty role as superhero but a father trying to instill values and not wanting his kid to be a monster like him
even though his kid is worse. Everyone gets a Robin. You set up the next person to take the mantle and you get an interesting dynamic never seen in a comic book film before. A father/son super hero duo.

He said all those words at Comic-con to insinuate that he would be Batman in The Matt Reeves Batman film when all he had to say was "I will be Batman after JL" or "I will be Batman in Matt Reeves Batman film". Instead he talks about his enthusiasm for being Batman and willing to be an ape for Matt Reeves in on of his films. Also telling is the fact that he mentioned that he always intended on doing a third film as Batman if Warner wants to do it and if the batphone rings, he'll answer. A somewhat subdued answer for someone who just a year earlier was pegged to not only star in but write and direct this third Batman film. Now he's hanging on for info on the film he was meant to helm from every aspect? The Hollywood Reporter is the most credible Hollywood source on the along with Variety. They are standing by their report.

FWIW I wouldn't have believed Affleck even if he directly said "I will be Batman in The Matt Reeves Batman film" I mean he went on Jimmy Kimmel and literally said he's still directing Batman and then about 2-3 weeks later it's revealed he is not directing Batman. I commend him for being more meticulous with his words in front of that comic-con audience that adores the hell out of him and he was there to promote justice league. He would never come out and announce his departure right then and there to diminish anticipation for Justice League. Regardless I really like Ben Affleck and truthfully all of the DCEU's casting this far (except Amy Adams) and want them to forge forward with what they've established. And Homecoming has its flaws, I would never dispute that. Wall of text is only necessary when people try to dismiss something that was a creative choice for the benefit of the character and film.
