With 49ers C Eric Heitmann out 6 to 8 weeks, David Baas and Tony Wragge get four exhibition games to duke it out. http://bit.ly/aeYBFN

Balmer was expected to return to practice Wednesday. A team official said Balmer was not excused from Wednesday's practice.
Balmer's agent, Gary Wichard, told Comcast SportsNet on Tuesday that Balmer was dealing with family matters. Balmer has yet to comment publicly on his situation.
Balmer been a disappointment in his first two NFL seasons, and figured to be in a battle to earn a roster spot this season.
When he left the team, Balmer was not among the 49ers' top defensive linemen behind presumptive starters Isaac Sopoaga, Justin Smith and Aubrayo Franklin. He also appears to be situated behind Ray McDonald, Ricky Jean-Francois, Demetric Evans and, perhaps, Khalif Mitchell on the depth chart.
